Richard, I never recommend anybody install a game or most software in administrator mode because:
It isn't necessary for most software. I'm sure less than 10% of the games given away here required that and have never seen an adequate explanation from a developer as to why they should. A type of program that should require admin mode should be obvious to most users, only one that requires system wide monitoring or changing functions. An antivirus is the standard example. And we now get a message from the developer that admin rights were not required anyway. It was simply an oversight.
If your antivirus misses something from a malicious program, you're in deeper trouble than someone who installs as a limited user. You've given the program practically complete access to change your system in the worst ways that the hacker can design. Good luck to you if that is your policy!

As to the game, awfully big for what you're getting. It does have multiple graphics quality settings for those systems with lower specifications - I haven't tried the settings - but there doesn't seem to be much going on here that would require as much computing power as they say is necessary for the highest settings. It's a relatively crude game and not a first person, multiplayer, 3D shooter. Lol. Only 1280 and 640 settings. And why 640 by 400 vice 480? And 1280 by 800 vice 760. Have they actually seen those monitors? I don't think it was intended to be panoramic. I think they just sloppily missed the right 4x3 sizes. And apparently they never heard of 800x600 or 1024x768, or their widescreen counterparts. And you can't adequately test these options because the resolution and graphics quality menus can only be accessed when starting the program. Requiring a restart to test various functions is poor design. And option menu should be part of a main menu. And no volume adjustments either. That's practically across the board game standard. And like someone else said, I actually see no devices in the control devices screen. So no keyboard support. Really? Also, as some one else said, the first optional game didn't work for me either. Documentation seems sketchy. A certain amount of mind reading seems required, lol, which is unacceptable. Many kids aren't going to have the game playing experience to know how to do some of these things off the cuff, and if they do, they're unlikely to want to return to this game. Lol. Kids need a higher - and clearer - level of explanation than adults.

Let me vote in your phone app poll folks. No! Instead of focusing on porting this game to phones, you should be focusing on porting it to modern computing standards.

Hi
Regarding the requirement for running the game in administrator mode:
The normal version of the game and the demo version available in our website comes in an installer which when installed properly does not require administrator mode to play.
But for the GOTD version the package was simply zipped up and extracted, I suppose - that is why it is requiring administrator rights to run the game.
Sorry for the inconvenience in this regard

For those getting the "not registered" error despite running activate.exe, a general rule is to try running the game (or generally the program you installed) as administrator. The reason for this is the game is activated to the administrator account, and for those running as standard user (the recommended Windows installation) this is a separate account and so the game remains unactivated when run normally.

As this is a kid's game I think I will not be trying this one. But thanks.

WhiteRabbit It's cool you removed the photo in fact I did not expect you to remove it.

However I would like to give feedback to the developer on that screenshot you removed. First of all it has a semi dark red background. There is also a fish on that screen with a sword in its mouth. I think the overall visual of this screen is scary for younger children in my opinion. Perhaps the developers could give some color to the enemies in the game so they all don't have the same red appearance but make it in a way the the end result is the enemies still have a serious look to them but not be so dark in image.

..............................Moderator comment..................................

I agree with your suggestion, imagery can be very vivid to children. The scary looking fish could give younger children nightmares. I can remember being scared as a very young person of certain images that I saw on TV and used to have nightmares about them. One image was actually a comedy sketch, but to me at the time it was very dark and satanic. I still remember the sketch today, but now can see the funny side.

Hi Gary, did you activate the game using the activation key? Todays game comes with a separate executable that installs the game plus an activation key (the orange icon with a key symbol)

I get the same message “Sorry, license not registered for Cabby Gils” on Windows 7, and I read that we should read comment from (GetHued) above but he doesn't address this problem or have answers so can someone help with this thanks

.................................Moderator Comment...................................

Install the game first using the separate setup executable then click on the activation module to activate the game. Todays giveaway is different to the usual game giveaway activations. We usually get a dual activation/setup file or an executable plus a registration code found in the read me. This is the first time I remember seeing this setup for a game giveaway.

I have tried to download the game several times. When I go to install it I get these error messages:

! C:\Users\Jen\Downloads\CabbyGils_Win.zip: The archive is either in unknown format or damaged
! Cannot execute "C:\Users\Jen\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$EXa0.684\Setup.exe"

I have even tried to extract the files to see if that fixes the problem. So I cannot test the game to say whether I like it or not.

............................Moderator Comment.....................................

Hello Jen, try using a different archiver. I've posted links to several different free ones such as 7-Zip and J-Zip. I've had the same problem in the past and used a different file archiver to unpack the game from the zip file. Go over to the forums (there's a link at the top of the game giveaway page. Look to the bottom of the page for the game discussion forums then look in the sticky section for the FAQ's thread.

Read through for other suggestions as well.

Thanks for this very beautiful game, it work fin in all my computer (eeepc and mac) it's very easy to play.

but i don't save it for me because it's for very young people.

i vote +1 for quality of compatibility support and beautiful
and -1 for graphical compatibility (see @6) and the old people(12 years) interactivity (the game is very too easy in hard level).

Downloaded on Vista fine.
The biggest problem with this game is the cursor (YOU CANT SEE IT!). The star is ridiculous. It's white - it may as well be transparent.
Make it so the fish does not go in circles. This is very aggravating and I can see the child would give up easily with such terrible control. The Cursor works as if the battery is going dead on the mouse (mine isn't). It's terrible. When other customers are in the way it locks up.

Also when you trying to buy upgrades and you click on the wrong upgrade again the letters are white and you can't see them.

I played it on relaxed mode and got up to 46 fares and was maxed out on upgrades and had no idea what would happen next.

The match the fish to the blank shadow in the middle of the screen didn't work.

I guess I'll have to play it on timed mode to get more of the bad guys.

It's a great kids game but the poorly chosen cursor and the fact that it is hard to see are a very big draw back.

Thank you for the game. Thank you Give away of the day.
It's a great site.

There is also nothing in the directions that says once you pick up a passenger the way to drop it off is to pass directly over the passengers picture in the house.

I usually use the right-click, "Run as Administrator" trick any time I install something. It's only one extra step, and it makes sure it runs properly. I got the game to work in Windows 8 x64 on the first try with no issues.

Runs fine on Mac 3.06GHz Intel Core i3 desktop under OS X 10.8.3. Thanks for providing a non windows version. Worth setting display at 1920x1080 as graphics are clear and bright and gameplay smooth. Recommended to all Mac users for fun.

Same issues other have reported with the message "Sorry, license not registered". Did run activate.exe prior to running setup.exe, also tried running it after, same error. Tried deleting everything and installing again, same error.

Next tried running the game as administrator and it works, did not receive the error and it starts up properly. Having to run a game with admin rights is simple unacceptable and screams poor/sloppy/uneducated programming. If the dev can't program their app properly, in my opinion, you'd have to be nuts to allow it run with admin rights because you don't know what else is going on behind the scenes. Others may disagree and choose to ignore the risk or decide it is acceptable, I don't and sadly will be removing, it did look like a fun game.

Win7 64 bit.

@Invisible (and Moderator, I asme Whiterabbit) Gamebooster is still freeware bus had it's name (slightly) changed from Iobit Gamebooster to Razr Gamebooster. Still an Iobit product though http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

game isntalled and worked fine on windows 7 64bit, not my type of game but looks ok for the players it targets. Bright colours, funny characters. bit Disneylike feel.

..............................Moderator Comment..........................

I used to post the Razer link, but was told you need to have purchased Razer products (mice, keyboards etc) to get the program free. I already have an account at Razer as I've purchased several mice and a couple of keyboards and mouse mats so was able to download it myself, but if you don't have an account it may not be possible.

Works fine on win8 64 bit. Easy to install and register now when I knew to put the registration key to the same folder as the game and open it there. I haven´t had so much time to play with it, but seems as a fun game for kids and even some adults as Stephen said :)

This game is pretty good for an independent developers it definitely lives up to its name Get Hued with bright and color visuals that make this game really stand out.

In regards to family friendly, this game is really cute. But WhiteRabbit, there is a screenshot you posted in your synopsis of the game with the red monster fish with the big teeth. I don't think its a big deal myself but that particular screen may potentially scare younger kids.

I was able to download and extract on Windows Vista fine. However, as in the Readme instructions I was presented with the "not licensed" page when I tried to start it. I tried the "Activate" file after this and it didn't work. Then I started the game in windowed mode so I could access the "Activate" file while it was starting. When I ran the "Activate" file at this point, it worked -- I was able to play.

Hey, Wabbit,

I think the game you are thinking about is called "Feeding Frenzy". Yep I played that a lot back in 2008 or 2009. Nowhere Man posted a similiar game about a whale that dines on planets. Week 230 - Good Games to Grab -Space Whale(galaxy Devourer) « Giveaway of the Day Forums - http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/65591#post-163641

Just downloaded this and got to go. Will check it out later; sounds like something I would like.

Congrats on the move..

Hi Delenn, yes, that's the one. :) Not seen that one yet (Nowhere Mans latest posting). Been really busy over the last few weeks. It's actually nothing like the game though. I only got a fleeting glimpse of the game once I did get it to work, but my wife was already pressuring me to hurry as we had a lot of work to do (We have carpets for the kids rooms being delivered next week).

Works on XP Home SP3, but with glitches. The resolution can only be set to 640x400, 1280x720 or 1280x800. At the max setting, on a 1280x1024 monitor the right edge of the screen isn't visible, as if it was more than 1280 pixels wide and didn't fit into the monitor. This resolution (1280x800) is typical for panoramic laptop monitors and it may very well work there, but it's a bit bizarre that the game cannot adapt to a non-panoramic monitor, even by adding 2 black stripes (above and below the screen) to keep the proportions and the entires gamescreen within the monitor. At 640x400 the graphics is, hmm, "old style", lest not say lousy. When starting the game we can theoretically configure controls, but the game won't recognize anything other than the mouse and there is nothing to configure. Clicking to many times in that window resulted in the game crashing. Steering with the mouse isn't precise. I know a lot of games that provide more fun for kids. At 257MB it's quite big. I'm definitely underwhelmed by this game. Don't want to vote thumbs down, b/c it's not completely bad, but no reason to give it thumbs up either, as it needs a lot of improvements.

It works in Windows Vista, but a program I have installed, Zemana Antilogger calls it a keylogger and says it is trying to log your keystrokes, however, if I allow it to continue, it does play, but I haven't figured out quite what one is supposed to do with the fish yet. So far, I do wish they would not talk in textspeak (Hate U?). The game runs very slow on 1GB memory - the mouse drags.

.................................Moderator comment.............................

With only 1GB of memory most of the RAM will be utilized by Vista and the background programs that it runs, plus any giveaways that have inserted themselves into your start up (assuming you've installed any giveaways)

You may be able to find earlier versions of Game Booster, which was freeware until last year. That turns of any Windows programs that are not needed to play the game, plus you can configure it to turn off other background programs, thus freeing up valuable memory for your game.

With respect to the keylogger, I'm sure its a false positive. The antilogger is probably picking up on the security that came with the zip file and that is necessary to install the game (setup.gcd). As I've mentioned previously, in the game giveaways 6 plus years there has never been a giveaway that included malware. The giveaway team thoroughly check all giveaways using several suites of well known anti malware programs.

I can confirm the game works on my XP SP2 system. There is no installation routine with this game. Instead you extract the game folder to a location of your choice. The extractor will remember your last location. If that is good, just click OK. If you want someplace else, browse to your desired location. The extracted game folder is 257 MB in size. There is an activate.exe file that must be run to register the game.

The game is very colorful and fun to play. You click on an animal and lead them to their homes. It is suitable for all ages. Check out this link for a quick demo...

or this link for a longer demo...

The game does not start on Windows 8: it says "Sorry, license not registered for Cabby Gils" and then exits right after the intro screen. I'm guessing that's the same problem that Whiterabbit-uk encountered, only without actually crashing.

I was unable to review this game last night and this morning because it crashed on both of the systems I'd installed it to (Win 7 and Win 8). At this point all I can say is that I was impressed with the initial intro screens, both of which were very colorful, but before I got a main menu on both operating systems the game crashes no matter what tweaks I employ to try and get it working. Apart from an arkanoid that was given away back in 2007 this is only the second game I've not been able to get to work since the project started back in 2006.

It does state over on the developers site that the game was designed for children aged between 4 to 12 years old :D

Following the message from the developer I deleted all traces of the game on my win 8 computer then reinstalled it, then activated it and this time it worked. I don't understand what the problem was before. I thought I'd activated it (prior to the giveaway as there's a window before the game is allocated to a specific day where I'm able to activate the game and definitely installed and activated both games on Thursday evening.

At this point in time I don't have the time to write a review as we are going over to my new house in a few moments for the afternoon. When I get back, 'if' I'm not too shattered I'll write up a short review of the game with more images. :)

The game is on the lines of that fish game where you had to eat fish that were smaller than yourself. I can't remember the name of the game off-hand (the opiates seem to wipe my memory), but this game is gorgeous looking w.r.t. colors. Very rich and feels well made.

Thanks to the developer for allowing this to be given away. If you have children definitely download this game; if you don't, still download it. :D

Installation

Make sure you activate the game either before or after you've installed the game. Todays game installation is different from the usual game installations we get in that there's an activate file as well as the usual set up file.

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
