Well, I tried this game and it was pretty good, except that when playing it, on my Windows 7 Acer laptop I would get sudden hard restarts - no warning, no fan acceleration, just BOOM restart city.

Happened EVERY time I played it, no pattern, could be 2 minutes or 20 minutes. So Thank you so much but my patience with this a no go. And no there was no error in the windows event log...

Great game, extremely addictive! Installed flawlessly on my XP SP3. Didn't take long to understand, although I do have to be careful of the time I have to play, it's so addictive hours go by like crazy! Would gladly pay for this game if I lost the version I downloaded from here. One thing though, as mentioned above, I agree with randomizing the levels each time you replay 'cause it would make restarting the game as adventurous as the 1st time. Thanks a lot to GGAOTD and the developers!

@30 Mike and @32 Michael B - I had the same problem with the mouse and following Whiterabbit's advice, I changed the mouse pointer to the custom one and the mouse works fine now. NOTE: This wasn't that easy with a barely visible mouse pointer but it didn't take very long.

@34 Nola - I also had the same problem with the game starting at Snefery Stage 1 and with 52k points. Simply create a new user and you can start from the beginning.

Thanks Whiterabbit for your detailed reviews. You're dedicated, you've been helping visitors for a long time.

It's possible to play through it in a day, although the later levels do take a little longer. I'm into the last set of levels after only a few hours.

The trick is to be patient. Plan out your moves before making them. Try to see what will happen next. And if you wait the computer will suggest moves. There are a few tricks, such as trying to double up as much as possible. Although this isn't really my favorite type of match 3, I still find myself interested.

I do sort of miss the power-ups other games have, although they would only make the game too easy.

Thanks moderator for getting back to me about the updates on this version. Since I see some are having problems on the Win7 ultimate......and my old version works fine....think I'll give a pass on the updated version. I'd hate to lose my old 07 version and get one that doesn't work for me.

I've been addicted to this game for quite some time now, as I also downloaded it when it was previously offered (on Windows XP). I'm not much of a gamer, but occasionally when I'm bored at work and bored with surfing, I need some other form of entertainment, or just a sanity break. I generally resort to playing Brickshooter Egypt. I've completed all levels a few times, and am currently up to over 2 million score wise. Once all levels are complete, it goes back to the beginning, tutorials and all, which is rather annoying but I've learned to deal with it. I'm grateful that I checked todays offering as I just installed it on my laptop, without any problems, on Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. Thanks GGOTD!

........................Moderator comment....................

The game has been updated since the last giveaway. Accordig to Playrix's information on their web site the game gets progressively harder on the 2nd and 3rd runs of the game. I'm wondering whether that is part of the update as everyone whose mentioned that they have completed the original giveaway implies no harder levels when restarting?

Downloaded on my W7 64-bit and could only get last half of game (three hardest levels). Uninstalled then reinstalled four times and still have the same problem. I would like the easy levels too. I've never had any problems like this before with GOTD or Playrix. Any suggestions as to what I can do before I just give up?

...................................Moderator comment...............

That's strange. I had the same problem on my Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS, though it works perfectly on my win XP Pro 32 bit and my Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Maybe try the free version from MyPlayCity, or update your graphics drivers.

I like it! The only problem I have is that on both my laptop and desktop (using Vista) the mouse pointer mostly disappears. As I move it around I see an occasional flicker, but it's a difficult thing to find the various buttons or stones using the mouse. The only way it works is to see how the buttons or stones change when the invisible mouse pointer is over them. So that problem won't stop me from playing the game. It makes you think without the time pressure of doing it quickly.

........................Moderator comment..............

Have you tried changing the mouse pointer to the custom one (got to the options menue). If that doesn't work try changing the screen resolution via the options menu or playing it in a window. finally if you've not updated your graphics drivers for a while try doing that as well. Hopefully one of these will fix the problem. You could also try reinstalling the game and even trying the MyPlayCity version. (Kate above tells you which section to look in for the game)

The myplaycity free download bundles the myplaycity toolbar web search and home page change selected by default with option to hide all other toolbars (to maximise display area) also ticked. They convert it to *optional* search spyware, homepage hijack to pay for it.

...........................Moderator comment....................

All those can be unchecked during the installation wizard. It just takes some common sense to make sure you've unchecked everything. MyPlayCity used to force you to install toolbars and hijack your home page. If you didn't agree, you didn't get the game. They have changed that practice over the last year, and are now one of (if not) the best free games download sites around. Gametop are moving more towards what MyPlayCity used to be like, plus popups are becoming the mnorm with Gametop, even with a pop up filter activated.. Many of MyPlayCity games don't even give you the option to install tool bars anymore. The installs are clean. The only thing that does happen is your browser is opened when you shut the game down, but that is totally innocuous and usual for these types of freebies.

..........................Moderator Comment.....................

It doesn't say it's compatible with win 7 in the specs but it does work on two of my Win 7 installations (Win 7 Pro 64 bit and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit), also someone above confirmed that it worked on the Win 7 Home Premium version as well. If you miss today's giveaway you can get it from MyPlaycity. See Kates post above for details.

I love this game! I had purchased it long ago but lost it when I changed computers. The game site stopped carrying it. This is not your average match 3 game at all. It can be really easy on some levels but the higher ones are TOUGH. I have restarted a level over 50 times to finally get the board cleared. I have no idea about points as that is not what I pay attention to-I just want to beat the level. I do have it from playcity, ad sponsored but it does not interrupt the game. But I will take this as a backup as I really missed the challenge when I didn't have it. Anyone who poo poos match 3's should try this out-it's a bit different with the sliding blocks.

When you stop the game, it is saved at that spot. This helps a lot when you are working on a difficult level. you can leave any time and when the game loads, you are right back at that point.

tip-I discovered that you can change the blocks coming up after the 3 colors that are visible on the sides. Since you can undo 5 moves, whenever you need a certain color to be available at the 4th or 5th place, you can send blocks and then undo and send again. each time, the 4th block and on changes-this helped finish some pretty difficult matches.

Thanks for a terrific game!

Thanks GGOTD and Playrix and of course Whiterabbit for his review - though for me this game is better than the average match3 ;)

@19 (Ben): Yes, you will lose all points when you have to RESTART a level, because you could not solve that level. The solution: never restart a level; always solve it! Yes, that is easy to say, but it is the only way. And I like it this way... It forces me to use my brain.

As mentioned before, I am addicted to this game. I have never come further dan 446.000 points, after which a had to restart, because at that point I could not solve the last level (Sphinx 10, in the third round). My girl friend is better. She is now close to 1.000.000 points (in her sixth or seventh round, I believe).

Man, this is easily the GGOTD game I've played the most. Like another poster, I lost it when I got a new comp....certainly worth another DL. It really gets QUITE tricky later, and unlike many of these casual puzzle games, you can take as much time as you want.

This is one of my all time favorite games. I bought it several years ago and still play it daily. I was even able to migrate the game from my old XP system to Windows 7 without any problems and retained all of my high scores.

The only thing I would change is that when you've completed all the levels the game starts over, but the pop-up instructions on how to play still show up on levels 1 & 2. I don't think anyone who has made it through all the levels needs instructions on how to play.

I got this game the last time it was offered and played the last level month after month after month until my hard drive crashed. At first I was relieved because it was pretty obvious I was never going to finish that last level, but it wasn't long before I started missing it! So I'm excited to have it again! Thanks so much!

For anyone who hasn't played this, the beginning levels make it seem simple and mindless, but it gets A LOT harder and a lot more addicting as you go on!

The game is nice but the lack of decent documentation is annoying. If you keep your playing field clear of stuck blocks you moved will you always be able to clear the level or can you get stuck nevertheless having to resort to restarting the level for instance? It is unclear/unexplained whether the restart button restarts the game or the level. I had to Google to find on some forum that it restarts the level. Someone remarked there that you'll lose all your points when you restart a level but someone else said that you'd just lose, and restart, the points from that level which seemed to make much more sense.

Wrong! For some reason (I assume it's a bug) you DO lose all points when you simply resume a level. This seems very odd/wrong, clearly a bug IMHO and one that should be easy to fix. So please fix it.

I haven't quit the game yet and don't know whether it autosaves (just one player at the time?) or whether you'll get an offer to save the game or...??? A simple straightforward 'Save' and 'Load' function would have been so much more clear and reassuring.

If only the developers would have spent 10 minutes writing a basic documentation or additional help. Lousy documentation seems to be the norm with most software and it's getting more and more annoying every year.

So... Nice game but annoying bug and lack of adequate documentation.

........................Moderator comment..........

I did mention in my review above that the game is automatically saved when you close the game down; though I didn't comment on whether it saves part way through a level. Yes it does. you can end a game at any time by clicking on the menu then exiting the game. when you return you will start where you left off unless you click on restart. If you do this you do, as Ben mentions lose all of your score. Basically you are restarting the game, but at the level you last played.

Quiet, contemplative variation on match three that allows for some foresight and planning. Nice graphics. Hint--for this and other games involving an in-game pointer, turn off mouse trails first.

Still, I'll try it out from here, just to avoid the browser thingy.

This is my favourite match three game. In my games map there are 65 games, mostly match three or hidden object. I only play this game. The other 64 games are for my girl friend.
It is not mentioned under System Requirements, but the game plays very well under Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits.
For visitors of this websites who have missed this opportunity, you can download the full version of this game for free at MyPlayCity:
http://www.myplaycity.com/brickshooter_egypt/
@whiterabbit: You wrote: "Each level remains the same each time you play it as opposed to many match threes that are randomly generated each time you play the same level."
That is not completely true. Yes, the blocks are grouped in the same way, but the colors of the blocks are different. So, you can't make the same moves to solve the puzzle.

If you like farming games check out the latest Farming sim called Farming simulator 2011, which you can find HERE

There is a demo available HERE . The comments at the bottom of the page are rather derogatory about the farming sim, but all are based on zero experience of the game. I purchased the game yesterday via steam and was quite impressed. If you like sim games this is definitely one to get. Ideal for those dark rainy winter nights
