My FAVORITE game. 10 out of 10. DO NOT get rid of the cheats. Its great to use to see after a knock out pick to see how you did it. Kind of like a replay. That's what I use it for. And to the person that wants Powerups , I guess that would be cool but I LOVE the way THIS game plays, so if the developer is thinking to put that or any different kind of modification to the original play of this game in, PLEASE make any modifications to the original play a switchable option. Thank you so much.

o much.

I didn't read the directions all the way through (my bad), and so I just started the game without giving myself a specific player name. The result was that I didn't get the help instructions, and the game jumped from one level to the next higher level without the intermediate steps in between. I didn't know what the heck was going on for quite a while. :P
I mention this just in case anyone else encounters this problem--you MUST give yourself a player name in order for the game to work properly and with graduated difficulty levels!!

silly me.

On most of these games, I turn the music off and play my choice of music with the VLC player as I play the game. It may be simpler than converting your favorite tunes to .ogg.

This is a very non-traditional match 3 game, and once I found my way out of the rabbit hole I am really enjoying it. It requires more strategy than just dumb luck. I appreciate that there isn't a big focus on a lame story that I have to skip through. This one will be a keeper.

Thank you very much!

This is my all time favorite game and I have lost it many times by having for format or replace computers. I'm always looking to see it return. I find it very addicting and like that there isn't a timer so I can take my time doing the levels and if you stop in the middle of a level, when you go back on the game, you can pick up where you left off.

One of my favorite games that I still have from previous Give Away. Have played it over and over again. The first levels are dead easy, but get more difficult and interesting as you go along. I usually get stuck for weeks at the very last level (but I dont mind). Even bought a copy for my iPad.

It seems to have my usual Playrix difficulty. They should default to custom cursor. or at least give a way (say with hot keys) to change to custom cursor from standard cursor. On my system with regular cursor, it's invisible so I have to basically move around the screen for 10 minutes or more until I can choose option and then another few minutes to get to the custom cursor's option box.

Otherwise it's a nice game.

Installed fine on W8 and W7 32-bit pro
Love it

I got this game a long time ago on another freebie game site. I was hooked the minute I started playing. I love the colors and the simple matching you do to clear the board of the bricks. The animation when you get large clusters or don't have to "set" up to clear is really cool and fluid. I gave it a thumbs up (wish I could give more than one). This game is excellent when you want to ponder something as you play. I love the seemingly endless levels as well.

Shucks.

I really wanted this one based on the high positive ratings, but there was simply no setting, under which ESET Security would allow me to install (variant of Win32.InstallCore.BC in ESET's opinion).

This is a GREAT game, which I've had since one of the earlier giveaways (can't remember which one, though) and I haven't tired of it yet!
Although I've gone through all the levels (the last one gives you the title of "God"... hehehe), I'd like for developers to contemplate the suggestion of adding to the last title a number (or something of the sort... eg. God 1, God 2, etc.) as, even though I don't think that I've reached all 60 levels and I've achieved said title, I haven't any notion as to which level I'm currently playing (yes, the colours keep being added on). :) Thank you!!

Hi Stephen;

Had to jump in because this is one of my favorite games, a go-to when I'm bored or have a few minutes, or when I just need a distraction. I've been playing the same game for months and my current score is 2,957,530 points (I've lost track of how many times it's rolled over), and my goal is 3 million.

Yeah, I like it THAT much.

It's not for everyone, as you point out, and IMO it has a glaring flaw - there's no key mapped to the "Undo" button (you can't get such high scores without judicious and repeated use of "Undo"!) and it can take a lot of clicks with the mouse to set up a successful line of attack, which is very awkward sometimes. But overall, for graphics, design, playability, increasing difficulty (adding a color every time you rollover makes it much harder by the 3rd round), graphics and replay value, I have to give it nearly a 10.

Again.

Of course, you have to like this sort of game - not really a match 3, but a strategy game that requires advance planning like chess to master (you have to plan ahead for what colors will come up-and where-vs what colors you need), fashioned around a match-3 type of game engine. It can get really challenging, trust me, especially the very last level - I "lost" a few players before getting to a million the first time, but once I realized what I had to plan for I have been able to keep going since - and I remember someone elsewho commented the last time it was given away who has a multimillion point score, so I'm not the only one who finds it an eminently replayable game. In fact, it's almost always running in the background every day...

I can't see myself ever NOT playing this game, I guess!
John
(Hope you're finally settled into that new house, Stephen! Good luck)

Another thumbs up from a long time player. I was so addicted to this game at one point, despite being able to manipulate the game thru many undo's & redo's and turning the game over and over to the point of accumulating millions of points. I just couldn't stop. I don't know if I'm happy that I can now reinstall it on my new Win7 machine. But of course, I did ;) Thanks GGOTD & Playrix.

Well this improves on Sat. oldie mess. FIne Win 8.1 x64 Pro. Full screen, options to kill M/S. Rem to remove the glyphs to win which can get easy to forget if lots of blocks on screen. Played before so maybe just random but first level was tougher than before. Just a test to be sure game plays. It does get quite hard at higher levels as I recall. Thanks for a goodie.

I too am addicted to this game. It's like smoking a cigarette, I just click on it and play without even thinking about it! (but it won't kill you!)
It is absolutely a unique "match 3" game. I have played it every day for years (when I really should be doing other more constructive things hehe).

While I do like WhiteRabbits suggestions, as they would bring something new to this game, (as extra options, of course) I would also suggest maybe adding an editor. I would love to be able to create my own board pattern!
After all, I have been GOD for eons now, and GOD should be able to create! :D

One thing I don't like is having to start at the "tutorial" beginning every time I finish then restart. Even with the clues turned off, they still show up. I would like to just click on any random level and play it.

I have also come to the conclusion that the UNDO is not a cheat, but actually part of the game play itself. Sometimes while doing an undo, and a color shows up that you weren't looking for, but you look at the board and assess your moves, it can change the direction of play that you were considering before. So, it just adds another dynamic to the strategy.

Anyways, Brick Shooter Egypt sits on my desktop right next to Hyperballiod 2. The two games i will always refer to everyone! :)

Thank you WhiteRabbit, Playrix and GGOTD!

..........................Moderator comment.........................

Ah good old Hyperballoid 2 (I beta tested that one). I still love the original as well. with over a thousand amazing levels. The only downside to the first one was the ball speed was too slow for me. Thanks for your feedback. :)

I still have this game from the May 2011 offering. I haven't played it in quite some time because I got stuck in a 60-something level. Now you're forcing me to go back and start the game over just to see if I can get through it this time. Grrrrrrr! ;)

This is one game I will give a thumbs up. I've played it before and enjoyed it very much at least until the levels start getting ridiculously difficult, then it's not so enjoyable.

But, I did enjoy this game even though I'm not a match three fan.

This is amongst the best games ever on GGOTD. I'd give it a 9 of 10 overall. The music and sound effects are fully adjustable. The game plays glitch-free, and it IS UNIQUE!

Something must be wrong with the voting for this to have andy less than 90%.

Thanks GGOTD and Playrix ... and my biggest thanks to Stephen for writing another excellent review - very helpful!

I enjoy this game very much. However, I found replayability was non-existent. As levels get progressively harder, replaying earlier levels are non-challenging.

I completed the game last download. I wish they would add more levels.

LOVE this game. Already have it installed. Played it several hundred times before I realized that if I didn't start a 'new' game, each time, my score would keep accumulating. Have been through it over a hundred times, since that 'light bulb moment', and now have a score of 22,628,420. Love the challenge of the thinking involved. Keeps my senior mind working. Thanks GOTD.

Installed Win 8 12GB RAM 64-bit, dual large screen monitors, but cannot get the program to open other than a small black screen (inset on Mon 1) with message that Brickshooter has stopped working which appears instantly. Toubleshooting compatibility routines failed to resolve this issue.

Changing screen resolution settings (unchecking show TV resolutions) on NVida panel did resolve the problem.

So I must have missed the previous giveaway, since I had this from MyPlayCity. Works fine on XP SP3.
It seems to have advantages over this giveaway:
1) it is self standing - copied the folder elsewhere, uninstalled the game, removed all traces from the registry and it still works fine from the copied folder. Just run game.exe and it will not try to hijack your browser (delete the brickshooter.exe file - this starts the hijacking attempt and then runs game.exe). Also, upon quitting, it doesn't open myplaycity.com - yep, an MPC game that doesn't open the website without the need for any fiddling.
2) it starts at the beginning with the creation of a new profile, no "playrix" profile or game in progress exists. The progress I made is being remembered correctly (so far).

In either version the full screen option doesn't work (at least on a laptop with a panoramic screen), i.e. the game's size is the same, the difference is in the rest of the screen - black ("full") or desktop (windowed mode). This would be my suggestion to the developer - make it clearer by using the full screen. I don't wear glasses (yet) but many people do and they will find the game more playable and enjoyable if they don't have to touch the screen with their noses.
I like the concept and graphics of this game. This definitely is a keeper. Thumbs up from me!

I'm a big match 3 fan, but never considered this a match-3 game until I thought about it for a while. I still have it from a previous giveaway and I play it frequently. Most match 3 games are brainless - there's no point lining things up because as soon as something new fills in from the top of the screen, your strategy gets invalidated. So I play regular match 3's as time wasters. Brickshooter is different. I play it when I don't want to think about life, because the strategy involved takes my whole brain. It took me a long time to realize that the goal wasn't to remove ALL the tiles - it was to remove the original tiles - the ones that don't have the arrows on them. So even if you have arrows pointing down to the last original block, and arrows pointing up to the same original block, if you get rid of that original block, it doesn't matter that you have the arrows pointing at each other; the level is over.

The only thing I don't like about this game is that, if you have patience, you can cheat. You can shoot 3 bricks and if the next brick isn't the color you want, then you can do 3 undos and try again. Sooner or later the color you want will be that 4th brick :-)

..........................Moderator comment.........................

Thanks for your feedback. Maybe they should limit the number of undo's you can do. I tend not to use the undo when I'm playing as i see it as a cheat. :)

#2: "Almost all monitors are 16:9 now. You have to change your games (not just this one) somehow to support them. I don’t like black stripes on the sides."

In North America yes, but I'm not so sure about the rest of the world. For lots of stuff the taller 4:3 screens are really more practical, so maybe that's what everyone elsewhere uses?

I've no idea myself, but I can't see developers writing games for non-wide screens if only a tiny portion of their customers run them.

I've enjoyed this game for years. I don't remember which time it was offered here that I originally tried the game.

However, if you miss this one, it is available for free from Jenkat Games, MyplayCity.com and Gametop.com. Jenkat has the strange dual install setup (no options) and MyPlayCity.com and Gametop.com have the browser opening annoyance plus MyPlayCity wants to do some hijacking (easy to circumvent).

In addition, if you sign up for the Playrix newsletter, you can get this game and Fishdom:Harvest Splash both full versions for free. At least that's what they offered last June.

It's a keeper! I haven't finished the game but I got quite far on an older machine and I'm still working my way up and getting a bit of a hang of the odd "look aheads" needed to be a bit more efficient and less "random" in my approach.

This is a great game. Lots of thinking needed at the later levels but with time to think. That's my sort of game. The suggestions Whiterabbit makes are unnecessary and would even maybe spoil it. I never read the accompanying story to these games, don't want powerups or time limits, and the whole point of later difficult levels is to defeat it however many tries it takes so please no randomizing of levels. The game is perfect and along with 4 elements is one of the few games that I keep.

..............................Moderator Comment.............................

Thank you for your feedback Ann. The suggestions are meant to be extra to the present game. additional modes etc. That would add to the game not detract from it. for example, when I say add a timer, I actually meant add a timed mode. Randomising the levels would mean you got different level each time you played it through, meaning unlimited levels.

I hate match3 games, but Brickshooter Egypt is one of my favourite games. It's definitely not another boring match3 game. Yes, you must make groups of 3 gems of the same colour to remove them from the playfield, but you have to use a totally unique technique to actually create these groups. In standard match3 games, you have just to locate a group and click it to remove it. Something completely stupid. Here, you have to think at the best method to create a group without blocking the next steps. That requires some thinking. However, Brickshooter is not really a puzzle game, because the colours are appearing randomly, and you may be lucky or not. IMO, it's a bad point. Another bad point is that you can easily cheat using repeated undos. Anyway, it's a fun, intelligent and addictive game, much more original and better than a standard match3 game. Take it while it is free.
