Just to let you know: I deinstalled it now without being able to play through. I started it all over with a new character.
The hint with the scissors and chest (see above) were exactly what I had already done (therefor couldn't find another chest).

Stupid bug.
Leaves whole game senseless. I'm curious if anyone was able to play through?
Anyway, I'm out.

Thank you for your feedback. It's a good idea to post your question over in the forums as well.

I don't know if anyone will still read this and I'm angry with myself for not posting earlier about this - because I need help!
I enjoyed playing this game a lot (my kids too!), great music, nice atmosphere - but now I'm stuck since weeks and was thinking about giving up and deinstalling when finally the idea came up to post here.

I'm talking about the level where you are at the officer's own house and you should start several chain reactions so the different amulet pieces fall into some container at the bottom. I started some of these (4 pieces are in the container now), the bomb falls to the bottom on the left but does nothing, then found nothing more to be done, I clicked on "hint" and it tells me to use the scissors on a chest - but there is no such chest on the screen!
I'm thinking there might be a bug cause I clicked really everywhere - and in the meantime my character changed, now i suddenly am a man although I was the female character throughout the game. Then again there might be a problem because in one previous level I didn't pick an amulet piece. But if that's the problem here, the game should have told me to go back and get that piece! It's so annoying to just be stuck...

Can anyone help me?

I agree with JeffB. Objects are small. Game doesn't actually fit full screen. Objects are not well drawn.

Meh. Just a straight HO game with a few minigames. This is a very old style game, if it isn't just old. A few years ago, it might have been fun, but with all the interactive HOGs and HOPAs (hidden object puzzle adventures) out there now, this won't cut it for me. They must have dug it out of the archive.

Objects are TINY, hard to find, and the hint button takes forever to fill. Like others, I had objects hidden just offscreen, too. The bottom of the picture was cut off for me. And the music was really bad. Very short, repetitive loops which got on my nerves really fast.

So I finally finished the game. I needed quite a few hints in the hidden objects, one or two per scene.

And in the sniper scene I ran out of hints even the second time.

The note in the trees, near the top, centered on a window -- I had to click on and around that maybe 40 times to get select it. That was the only object like that.

I'd also like to suggest for hints that rather than making the object twinkle, put a circular twinkly halo around it, with the object somewhere in the middle.

In #64, Fran makes a good point when she observes that some of the objects are so well hidden that they aren't puzzles any more. The object has to be there and visible as an object, just hidden.

It isn't fair to only show a non-nondescript part of the object, like a handle.

The game is pretty good, but as with anything there are ways to improve it.

1. So I got the game to show up undistorted in a reasonable size by going into my video card controls and turning "scaling" on and setting it to maintain aspect ratio.

That isn't something most people would know how to do without being told. So either the game should be programmed to make the change, or instructions should be available in the "help" next to where people select windowed or full screen. My feeling is that, whatever the native aspect ratio, the game image should appear at least *close* to full screen size without the user needing to fiddle around with settings outside the game. And this is especially true for simple games aimed at non-technical users. A scaled up 800x800 square in the middle of my wide screen flat panel monitor, filling top-to-bottom is okay, if people don't have to fiddle around outside the game to get it.

2. The game is working fine and I've gone through a couple of levels. It would be nice to have higher resolution photos, and I expect if the game was created today it would.

3. Now I'm stuck in the "sniper scene". I can't find the last photo and "hints" have stopped working. (I don't know, maybe I used too many hints figuring out how to get the binoculars to work. In which case I need to figure out how to restart the level.) I don't know if this is a bug or me just not knowing what to do yet.

4. I found a couple of wrong words. In the candy shop the "cabbage" is actually a "cauliflower" (it has a white head).

And in various scenes, where "thread" is mentioned it looks more like "yarn" to me.

5. One suggestion, IF a game is going to give a choice of male and female lead characters, it should give a choice of race too.

So the game is pretty good, but as with anything there are ways to improve it.

It only took 2 hours for me to complete the whole thing. It was ok while it lasted, but really too short. It would have been better if you were timed and given points for how fast you could do it. Also, some of the words are generic. For example, "bird" might be in the list, but there are 5 birds in the picture, so you have to find the right one. Or, "note" would be an item to find, but there were papers everywhere. The words are also not descriptive enough. You might have the word "cane," but is it a candy cane, a walking cane, just a bamboo stick, etc? But for a couple of hours of time, I suppose it was interesting.

Downloaded and played with no problems, thanks for the game! :)
Some of the objects are sometimes in the margin, and can not be seen readly, and others are blurry, otherwise, it's a good game, and enjoyable.

Well tried the download hours later and it went well this time.

It is a very nice HOG game, a nice way of hiding things also. The storyline is weak, but not important at all for me.
A thumbs up game for me, thanks a lot.

This is a nice little game that can be played in just a few hours. Part of this is due to the lack of any behavioral penalties. There is no clock and you can click as fast and often as you wish. But you may need those extra clicks. Some objects are virtually impossible to find (particularly in the "signs" room). The hidden-object play is broken up with several puzzles of varying degrees of difficulty. Nice work!

Downloaded within 60 sec / installed quickly on my Win 7 machine.

I know that if WhiteRabbit were here, he would advise that since the installation does not include it's own shortcut to do the following.

- Navigate to installation path - mine is C:\Games\Between the Worlds

- Right click on the usby.exe file / drag to desktop and let go, choose the option - create shortcut - and Wala! I have a games folder on my desktop called .... wait for it ...... GAMES! :P and just toss the shortcut in there.

The game plays smoothly and flawlessly and responds to the mouse immediately.

I enjoyed the game to some degree, But it's definitely not as good as other HOG games and I own lots of them.

Favorites are:

- Around the World in 80 Days;
- House of 1000 Doors - Family Secrets;
- House of 1000 Doors - The Palm of Zoroaster;
- Farm Scapes;
- Garden Scapes;
- Garden Scapes - Mansion Makeover;
- Mystery of Mortlake Mansion.

Unfortunately, I found "Between the Worlds" to be a bit too easy with no option for playing with a time limit to spice the game up a little.

Graphics are ok but not spectacular. That said I'm grateful to Puppet Life for the opportunity to test their game and comment. Thank you to GGOTD also. :)

It breaks my heart to see this game offered today. I LOVE these games. But due to the new wrapper, I'll refrain from the download.

However, don't let that stop others. I can vouch for the author, I've had a few of their games in the past. It's fun, especially this one if you like finding games!

Wow! Downloaded & installed pretty quickly for me (WinXP, SP2 & Chrome browser)- straightforward.

Graphics are crisp and colourful, music is unobtrusive: storyline with the wizard is a little hokey, but integrates the hidden-object and puzzles sections, so I'll accept it. I do love HOG-based games with a story-line.

Thanks, Puppet Life & GGOTD - great game!

I do miss Whiterabbit's review. Hope you're OK, Stephen.

I love this game. Especially, there are a lot of character profile slots. And also, character images are so cool. I hope that it will added a new characters if the story of the game is suitable for that.

Hi again, oh dear:).., I might take something back from my previous comment, hmm. After playing 2-3 levels, completing 1 puzzle (jigsaw) and getting slightly stuck with second one, the triangle (not that I don't appreciate challenging puzzles, mind) - I simply got "overwhelmed" by not only crudeness of graphics (after all), but rather unnecessary level of difficulty in finding these hidden objects..

OK, in simpler words - finding hidden object is mostly fun, finding how well they are hidden is also fun - provided it's done in such manner that you marvel over the fact how cleverly they were hidden, or disguised as something else to fool you..

What we have here (unfortunately) is, I think, simply mistaking clever with silly, to the point of ridiculous, annoying even! For me anyway. Because of it - the game is loosing a flow, lightness, fun, and sense of adventure. The whole "Mystery" is lost on.. studying pretty crude (yes, that word again) objects - in, let's face it - pretty ordinary locations.., so far that is.

I might be a massive fan of HOGs (I know I am), but this one will probably be better suited for die-hards:)..
One small mercy being that it's in "relax mode" only, with unlimited number of hints (slow as heck) and it doesn't matter if the pointer is "fancy", or precised and faster. Here it doesn't.

At the moment I doubt I will warm up to it easily, unless in some unexplained surge of.. masochistic challenge, lol, I'll decide to tackle it and complete, sorry:(

Nice game. Thanks! Would prefer fewer objects hidden at edge of display - your hiding is good enough elsewhere that you do not need to "cheat" with "almost offscreen" items. Also, perhaps just my system, but 1st occurrence of "need to open" told me to click on an object that was below a yellow band that filled the bottom of the screen - choose a higher object or disable the yellow band.

Not really impressed with this game, and I love hidden objects. Heres why:
*even enlarged, window is just too small to see objects, and the game developers really like to hide objects, even to the point where you find yourself saying CONSTANTLY..."that wasn't there before I clicked the hint button".

*Also, sorcerers puzzles are very hard, and some dont have a reset button in case you make a mistake, so you end up having to quit the puzzle instead of being given another chance to solve it.

*Some objects are extremely small, even foolishly small, so someone who has a hard time seeing to begin with, wont find this game fun at all.

*The "hint" button take forever to load, by the time it does, you've just about given up and ready to exit the game.

All in all, I'd give this game a 2 out of a 10.....10 being great.
And like I said, I LOVE hidden object games, just not this one. Gonna uninstall it when I'm done writing this, cause I just can't fathom trying to find that little teeny, tiny dice in the top right corner of the game, near the guys arm, where nothing should be in the first place because you think its part of his arm.

Certainly not the best HOG around, poor graphics, typical, boring detective story. Kinda like, "If you've seen one you've seen them all". But it'll do for a freebie. At least the mini games were a bit fun, though typical and too easy. Thanks guys!

I love these games. Downloaded (to a made up folder) and installed fine. Some of the mini puzzles are hard but there is the option to skip :-). I played untill about the middle when you need to use binoculars and that is when the program shuts down. Does it have anything to do with Open GL? I have a Laptop with WinXP.
I would love to know if I can ever finish this.
P.S. Whiterabbit you are missed.

Thanks GAOTD and Puppet Life, I love HO games. This one looks good but after playing the first level, I might not keep it. As Anu said, it's veeeeeery slow. Download took over half an hour, and play was literally frame by frame movement. If it is like that next time, I'll have to delete it. :(

Hi, Thanks for another HOG Game!, I became an addict:) some time ago now when with RealArcade, and discovering my first hog - Misteryville.., all Little Shops followed (playing for speed in the end), solving crime, a.s.o. Although now I'm spoiled for choice and some truly beautiful graphics - it's always exciting to add another one to my Collection:)

Between the Worlds installed well (XP Pro, SP2, Intel Graphics), objects are relatively tricky to find, and even thou they are not of the "top notch art" - still pleasant enough to enjoy and have a decent challenge ahead.. Not a fan of fancy pointers, as they can often slow down games, so always a good idea to have it as an option only (which here is missing), but thanks again for this Giveaway, much appreciated:)

I admit; I am spoiled by the big name game developers, and have come to expect big things from hog/adventure games.
The installation went fine, and the game displays fine.
HOWEVER, there is a lack of any kind of atmospheric sound(yes my sound card drivers are up to date) apart from the first hog scene,(one clap of thunder and that was it)
I never play with the music on, maybe this is why?
The hog scenes are all junk piles plus there is no rhyme nor reason for any of the objects(something to which other developers now pay attention) The objects are so minuscule that it truly isn't fun, looking for them.
The lack of voice overs is understandable; it is costly to develop games but there could be more attempts at a story line. Most people are bored by endless hog scenes with no kind of narrative backup.
So I am deleting, would not buy this game(and I do buy games from developers that I have discovered here.) Sorry, ,guess you might try again....

The screen resolution does seem to be a problem. I've played several levels and some of the objects were actually off the edge of the screen. Even with the hint 'aura' I couldn't see them and had a hard time clicking on the right spot.

Also, it would be nice if the wizards puzzles gave you a chance to 'reset' them until you solved them. Once you make a mistake you have to choose 'skip puzzle' which I hate to do.

yes, the music gets old fast.

Download and install went great. But the game seems to run almost in slow motion sometimes. The mouse pointer is very hard to control, very irratic. If it doesn't work bettet after I close then restart I will delete it. Not fun if you have to deal with slo-mo screen and wonky mouse. Too bad I have been waiting for a HOG and was very happy to see one offered today. Thanks GG for this and all games offered!

Downloaded and installed without problems using Win7 64bit. It installs to c:games folder and from there you can create a shortcut for the desktop. Nice HOG game with a good array of objects to find. The graphics are excellent and there is a 'skip dialogue' prompt if you don't care to read it. Thanks GGOTD and Puppet Life! This one is sure a keeper.

I agree with the earlier comment that playing the game windowed won't work. The objects are just too small with an 800X600 resolution on my machine.

The download and install went flawless if a bit slow. It was not a true install, just an extraction of a compressed file. Therefore there is no shortcut created. That's no big deal.

I did note that it creates a folder under your (at least for Vista). That is inconvenient and leaves the folder cluttered. It should have placed it in Appdata or Documents rather than at the main username level. I hid it just to keep my folder looking cleaner. Window's puts enough junk there without having games put MORE!

Over all, it's a nice HOG. Traditional in that you look for stuff that has no relationship to the story line but not timed so you can relax doing it. The hint is VERY SLOW to rebuild but, again. That's not a big deal. I clicked it as much to find out how fast it reloaded as anything else.

Over all - an average HOG for an average price (normally) but an excellent price today. A solid Thumbs UP!

Downloaded and installed the game with no problems. Game runs fine and is a very enjoyable find-items-in-the-clutter type game (from what I saw in the first couple of puzzles). My only concern so far is that (at least in full screen) the resolution is horrible. The images are grainy and it's fairly hard to make out what that "tiny fuzzy block of pixels" is... oh, that was a saxophone? :)

This is one of my favourite types of games... HOG with mini-games interspersed throughout. I have played a few screens and the number of mini-games is good with (so far) a good variety. One thing I miss, from having played other games of this sort, is a "restart" button for the mini-games. Playing the dot/circle game, I could not back up if I highlighted the incorrect dot, and to restart I had to put a line of dots all the way to the exit where I was asked if I wanted to restart the puzzle. Also, during the jigsaw puzzle, having an instruction somewhere telling how to turn the pieces to fit would have been handy (I did figure it out through trial and error). Although the "feel" of the hidden object scenes is not of the same caliber of games such as "Echoes of The Past", it is still an entertaining game and will allow me to continue to procrastinate some of my more wearisome duties =).

Thank you for yet another great giveaway =)

Downloaded the game right now. Everything went just perfect !! No conflict because of the wrapper. No problem with my security software. Just fine !!

I opened the game. The visuals are really nice. Same about the music. I also like very much the "information summary", especially because it states "secrets found", "wizard's trap", "bonus levels"... hmmm, I like it when there are extra challenges ;-)

Don't have time to play right now. But will do in the coming days. However, like others mentioned earlier, the "Idea Informer Widget" does not work :-/

Then, where should we post our next days' comments or suggestions, if any !? Would it be OK on this page ?? ...

Fast d/l. Install ok, maybe my own shortcut. Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Great combo of HOG & puzzles - just did first jigsaw one so don't what the others will be. Yes can be tough to find objects. Hints help in case you've banged a spot only to later have hint show it was where you'd alread click. Maybe need to click bit slower. Turned off music tho ok. 9.5/10 for this genre. Thanks & Happy weekend# Dun worky too hardy. Maybe another nice free toy Sunday?

@15 Deborah1962, I always save everything from GAOTD onto my extra hard drive by changing from the default C: drive to my K: drive ( I named that drive K as it is my first name), and then run everything from it, so if I have to reformat my C: Drive, I know I can still continue to play and use all the programmes I have downloaded, because no matter how often you have to format, you can do it knowing everything is still playable and useable, an I have had to reformat my C; Drive, hope it helps.

Installed and runs fine on Win 7 64 bit. Problem is everything is too small. Windowed mode, which I prefer to use, is impossible to use because everything is tiny. Full screen mode isn't much better and doesn't really take up the whole screen and is only slightly larger than windowed mode. Desperately needs a zoom option so you can zoom in on the pix for a better view.

Oh, and don't put a static image of a seagull on a scene in which I have to locate a seagull, or a static image of glasses on a scene in which I have to locate glasses. That's ridiculously frustrating for a hidden objects game.

Another thing I noticed - the game doesn't ever seem to take me to the map to see how things are progressing over there. It's got an interesting game layout, so why wouldn't you go back to the map to see it progress after every level?

Game feedback: As far as hidden objects goes, this game needs some serious polishing up.

First off, the first jigsaw puzzle minigame does not include instructions for rotating the pieces, and I only knew what to do because of how many games I play. I think the game could add a couple more instructions in some places, especially if it's geared for kids.

The story starts of very choppy. Why am I at that house? Whose house is that? What am I looking for? I only learned about the assistant and amulet because I clicked on their icons. And what the assistant tells me (not to give away any spoilers) doesn't make sense as the game starts off as a simple cops versus gangs causing trouble premise. If this is some part of a series, I am completely unaware of that as a first-time player of this game. Who am I that a police officer from another city requires me to fly there to investigate "bad things" happening in his town? Why can't he handle it? I think it's important to be aware that the game player may not be aware of the full premise of the game.

The Hint feature is very much not what I was expecting. I still prefer hints that point to the area in which an item is but still requires me to pick it out. This hint brings the item forward out of hiding completely, thereby ruining my seek and find experience. I had never thought of it that way playing other HOGs until I clicked on the Hint feature in this game. Now I know that the Help can in fact hurt the actual game play if done incorrectly. Part of the experience is figuring out why you couldn't find the object in the first place - figuring out exactly how it was obscured by other objects. By bringing it forward completely, that experience is lost.

Things I like: So far, I really like the music selections. I know other people mentioned above items being too small, and I admit that every so often they are a bit small and/or obscured, but as a seasoned HOG player that actually adds a nice level of challenge to the game for me.
