I have Astro Avenger 2, so I did not download this version. I was inspired to give AA2 another spin, though. I really like this style shmup. Turn up the volume, arm yourself, and commence destruction. The explosions were so satisfying, I think my monitor was shaking!

Since I didn't play today's specific download, I just have one generic comment: There needs to be an Exit button on the weapons purchasing screen, or at least the ESC key should work there to activate the exit menu. It does not seem logical to have to start the next level in order to exit the game.

Thank you Awem for a fun shooter. I had a good time playing.

Thank you for your feedback. I would still have downloaded the first one in the series as it is different to the second one. both have their merrits and negatives.

While I liked the game, there are some things I'd change.

1. I played through this when it was given away a few years ago, and it had another weapon; each time you completed a level, you received a secret weapon piece, and at the end of world 4 it was assembled and then you used your money (called energy in that version), to fire. It was a much more powerful weapon. I'm not sure why it isn't here, but the game lost a lot of playability without it, besides being less interesting because there was no real goal.

2. While the developer obviously spared no expense on graphics, the weapons need more imagination, development, and so on. I had so much money I usually just buy 3 upgrades on weapon 1, then skip to weapon 3, and then to 5. On the other hand, battery uprades were so expensive I often couldn't use the weapons very efficiently.

Upgrading the weapons often cost less than the initial purchase, which is very odd.

I'd like to see the ability to use multiple weapons, perhaps with smaller yield. So you could combine 3+1 together for more interesting action.

I'd also like some sort of drone addon or something; a repair drone for instance, a missile-firing drone, and so on.

Like I said, gameplay was fine, graphics were great, but the weapons made it boring at times. And it has very, very low replayability value.

Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. Some good ideas. I agree about the weapon yields. I used to love games like Galaga where each new weapon was combined with the originals, so by the end of a level if you'd not been hit you had an array of different weapons, but each individually was reduced in effectivness, but in combination were more effective.

Thanks, very good game. Installed and activated with no problem at all. I would like to echo some of the other comments above. I played through first on the easy setting, which was.....pretty easy. I then played through as an 'Ace', which was quite hard to start with, when you have limited fire power and armour, but once I got onto the second world (level 11) and had enough money for the number 4 laser, it also became easy and I didn't lose a single life.

I don't mean to blow my own trumpet here, I consider myself pretty 'average' (if that!) yet I found the game fun, but too easy. The number 4 laser is way too powerful, dispatching most enemies with a single brief click and is much more powerful than the level 5 gun - as soon as you get that, the game becomes a piece of cake. also, the bosses are too weak. I found if I loaded up on 'nukes', then (combined with the number 4 laser) a rapid barrage of 10 to 30 nukes would take down any boss in a a matter of seconds. I just went one-on-one and my fire power was such that I took the boss down before he took me down and then just repaired in dock.

My suggestions:
1. Make supplies much more expensive or make money much harder to get.
2. Make bosses much tougher.
3. Make number 4 laser weaker.
4. Add a 'nightmare?' level above 'Ace', as 'Ace' just isn't hard enough.

I know these games are always a balance between making them easy enough to be fun and not frustrating/off-putting and making them a challenge so that you feel a sense of accomplishment for winning through. With a few tweaks, Astro Avenger could have the balance right, but its not there at the moment.

very good game though and thanks again.

Hello, may i ask, this game provides a registration key for install, and the key can be use to install the game again if i reinstall my OS(and if i backup the key), but in the readme file it stated that
"You have to install and activate it before the Giveaway offer for the software is over."
So, is it legal to use the key to install the game in the future?(and same situations with software given by Giveaway of The Day that provides serial number)
Sorry for this stupid question and thanks for answer.

You are only supposed to use the key within the first 24 hours. It's then down to the individual as to whether they decide a program or game is good enough that they want to continue to use it. The set up file is wrapped which meas it will be unusable after 24 hours, so make sure you install the game before the time is up. There is 10 hours to go before the game giveaway ends. :)

Usually not fond of shooter games, but this one is excellent! It's easy to figure out, straightforward objective and practically no learning curve. The mouse controls the ship and has perfect sensitivity. I couldn't stop playing for hours. It didn't seem that dated to me. Good graphics and sound. Love it!
