The game was originally given away on the 3rd October 2007 where it received a positive 90% from 319 votes with 87 comments which you can see HERE. It was also given away on the 11th November 2012 where it received a positive 73% from 479 votes with 53 comments which you can see HERE

You can see a few videos of game play HERE, HERE and HERE.
The Game:
Arctic Quest 2 is the sequel to the first Arctic Quest and which continues the plot of the first instalment of this series, it has the same game play but it introduces some new items such as new bonuses ( for example water and fire elements) as well as new crystal shapes animals that have powers and 66% more levels (i.e. with an extra 40 levels added) The graphics have also been upgraded. Some of the above will be described in more detail below.

To solve the puzzles grab the falling crystals and place them in the grid so that they leave no empty spaces . Crystals that aren't used will accumulate at the bottom of the arena. When the bottom fills up so that there is no room you lose the game. Thankfully you can destroy shapes by dropping them in the fire. Once used it is doused but will regenerate again soon. Every so often you will get a mini game in the form of a timed hidden object game.
Arctic-Quest-2-003

Arctic-Quest-2-004
The 100 puzzles represent trapped plants and animals that need to be brought back to life. You'll be presented with an outline of the creature that you'll need to fill in using the ice crystals that fall from the sky.

These crystals come in various geometric shapes, from tiny triangles and diamonds to more complex configurations that are trickier to find space for. You'll win the level when the shape is completely filled in, and score bonus points if you manage to "chain" three or more of the same ice crystal together so that they're touching.

Unused ice pieces fall into the water below, and if the water becomes clogged with ice, you lose the round. Thankfully there's a small bonfire on shore to burn off extra pieces that aren't needed; however, the fire takes a few seconds to recharge after each use.

There's also the occasional bonus level where you have to complete a shape within a certain time-limit or to achieve a high score using ice crystals that scroll across the screen instead of dropping from above.

Certain ice crystals contain trapped animals. If you free them by using the ice crystal (instead of letting it fall or tossing it into the fire), they grant special power-up abilities that can help you. The snail, for example, slows down the speed at which the ice crystals fall, the puffer fish squirts water to fill in an empty space, and the crab smashes floating ice pieces into small triangles. The piranha, cruises through the water devouring any unused ice pieces that get in its way. You can also purchase power-ups using pearls that are earned throughout the game.
Arctic-Quest-2-005

Arctic-Quest-2-006
In addition to power-ups, there are also a handful of special ice crystals that behave a little differently. For example, when two water element crystals are placed inside the shape, all the empty space in between them will be filled in automatically. On the other hand, anything that happens to be between two fire element crystals will get destroyed. There are also rainbow crystals that will form a chain with any other type of crystal, as well as shape-shifting crystals that constantly mutate until they're used, which allows you to wait for the shape that you need the most.

As if all this wasn't enough to think about, the sky is also home to birds that fly back and forth and can be clicked on for extra points, and in later levels, the Prince will send angry storm clouds rolling in to zap away at the shape with lightning, destroying your work - you'll have to neutralize these clouds by clicking on them.

At the same time, Arctic Quest 2 is quite an interesting game visually. While the graphics themselves are so-so, the shapes (which encompass everything from grasshoppers and chameleons to snowflakes, sharks and seals) have a certain mathematical beauty about them. Some of the best levels are those where the shape is not all revealed right away. For example, a snowflake might start off as a small level shape hexagon in the centre and then gradually expand into a complex and beautiful shape the more of it you fill in. Another is a caterpillar that when filled suddenly unfurls its wings to reveal a majestic butterfly.

Progress is recorded on a map, and as you clear each region you'll see the frigid tundra transform into lush, tropical islands filled with beaches and greenery.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 1 hit (MaxSecure) from 63 antimalware engines. MaxSecure is amongst only several antimalware suites that often tag TooMKY Games and other free game sites like MyPlayCity, Gametop and FreeGamePick, compared to most better known and more reliable antimalware engines, so it's very likely to be a false positive.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that opens your browser to TooMKY Games home page after the game has installed and may place some shortcuts onto your desktop; these can be safely deleted once the game has installed.

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to TooMKY Games home page following the games installation, it earns TooMKY Games games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. The giveaway version of TooMKY games version has had most of the adware disabled.

You can see the results of the scan HERE

If you're still not convinced of the games efficacy and want to be absolutely sure that the game is safe to install, please use a sandbox program to check that the game is safe to install before installing it to your C drive or other drives on your computer (assuming you have more than one drive).

There are free sandbox programs such as Sanboxie, GeSWall, BitBox, Windows Sandbox, Bufferzone (a six month commercial license was given away via the applications side of the project back in December 2009 HERE), Shadowzone, as well as others. (You'll find them all on the same page from Techwhoop.

After reading the description and watching the first video, I was going to pass on this but based on Stephen's and Jason's reviews decided to give it a go. Glad I did as it's lots of fun. My only complaint is that it can be difficult to see some of the writing, white on light blue. One other thing in case anyone runs into this. The second time I launched the game my laptop screen froze and cursor was flickering. The game was just as it came, in windowed mode with custom cursor and hardware acceleration off, so it was not due to any changes I made. I couldn't close the game even with Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) but I was able to sign out from there. Afterwards, I ran "Troubleshoot Compatibility" (right click game icon) and after 3 attempts it seems to have fixed it. I have no idea what the problem was but In case anyone runs into the same issue, try that and hopefully, it helps.

Thank you to all who made this giveaway possible!

Today's game triggers so many happy memories of my childhood. Back in Summer school i put together puzzles called Tangrams where you had to fit in the pieces correct onto the activity sheet and the pieces were laminated. Those were fun times.

This game captures all the fun of these activities and challenges you to put in the pieces correctly that are falling from the top without getting a full water bed of them. Puzzles start out simple but get challenging in later levels.

It also reminds me of Tetris in a way as you have to rotate pieces on the playing field to get the right angle on placing the shape to the puzzle board.

While the game is pretty straightforward to play it's best to pay attention to the first tutorial in game to understand how the game is going to be played from the rest of the levels.

I did not have any technical issues playing todays game although the game was a bit choppy on the startup until the screen loaded completely. There is an option called Hardware Acceleration and Custom Cursor. If the game is working fine for you I suggest turning this off unless the 2D render engine from the game is not performing well as these options can cause issues with some video drivers.

A must have game to play for any occasion and great for all ages.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

Hi Jason,

Thank you for your feedback, appreciated. Hope you and yours are having a restful weekend?

The site had a limited giveaway for TangramsVR HERE five years ago. I'm also sure that we were given a 2D tangram game shortly after the game giveaway stopped operating for several weeks back in 2008, when the games moved back to the main site around April to May 2008 during the financial crisis; where many small game developers and some big name developers went bust due in part to the massive drop in prices, for example most casual arcade games used to retail for $19.99; within weeks they had dropped to anywhere from $4 to $6. At that time we were given mainly screensavers, but at least one or two games per week were included with the applications.

As for todays game, despite its slightly grainy look (due to its age), it's still a fantastic game that should keep the most ardent casual gamer entertained for weeks to come. I enjoyed playing this the first time it was given away and ended up buying it from Alawar years ago. And which is the version I used to take the screen captures above.
