OMG! LOL Now who is the one that needs a bit more edumacation!!?? LOL!

Looks like "SRLSY" is the REAL moron here :)

XXVII just so happens to be 27 in the Roman numeral land looooza, so b4 you call other's morons (e.g Veronica A), look within, real deep, and you will find today's (and everyday's) "Looooza of the DAY...MORON!".

Hi All.

I had a blast today after reading the comments then downloading and playing the game a bit. Every time I'd lose or hit a bonus and hear the odd sound effects and music, I would literally lmao. Y'all had me ready for this one!

I love this site. Not all games are great, but it's fun checking them out. I had never played this type of game before, and I'm definitely no good at it. Keep this fun site going, folks. Many of us really like it.

Maybe not disappointed every day Semi. IIRC you did like Robbox a couple days ago. ;) That's one cool game.

Thanks for the ijji link, cool games over there too but most are for playing while online. A comparison to this site would be other downloadable installed ones.

Re comment #41 Semicolon, I tried the site and must say in my opinion your talking rubbish. The games are just typical online games windowed and really hard to control when the mouse arrow leaves the playing area. The game you mentioned that knocks all the games that have been offered here at GotD...Gunz, is actually a totally different genre, on the lines of America's Army and all the other free online games. If you like to play online games then the site you mentioned is fine, but for a few moments of relaxation you really cant beat having a great arcade game that is on ypour computer and can be accessed while your offline cant be beaten. I actually think Gunz is a great game, but I prefer other fps games such as BF2 and the unreal games, which of course arn't free, but have massive mod based freebies (for example there are over 500 extra maps available for Battlefield 2 all of them free and many far superior to the original paid for maps. Sorry i've gone off the pont a little. Just can't understand how someone thinks those poxy online freebies compare with full color, full screen arcade games hat we've been treated to by the GotD team. Rock on guys.

My recommended list of 20 arkanoids for arcanoid fans:

Magic Ball 3 the best ever 3D graphics and new powerups from MB2

Super DX Ball Delux with free board packs

Acky's XP Btreakout with editor and some very original gameplay, apart from the name. My number 1 arckanoid game of all time

Action Ball Delux robots and great 3D graphics (a little dated by Magic Ball 3 standards, but there's expansion packs available and when you buy the delux version you get the original 100 levels free plus 100 new levels.

Arcon Toys an unusual 3D game with Wave ball like movement of the playing arena, with promises of free board packs that haven't materialized yet.

Breakquest 100 levels of pure arkanoid fun, with the ability to select from a very large power up base. Every board is different. My number 2 game despite not having a levels editor.

Arklight A combo of arckanoid and space shooter

Breakball 2 Gold Classic stuff with 10 different ways to play.

Incrediball-The seven sapphires Anb amazing story line and great 3D graphics, with some amazing power ups makes this one of my top 5 arkanoid games.

Beatball 2 with levels editor

LittleGods A very beautiful pong/arkanoid clone on the lines of rival ball tournament, but different. Some great gameplay and stunning graphics

Chicken Attack Great for the kids with some great gameplay and an original slant on arkanoid

Clash Fantastic simplistic looking, but relatively hard game, with beautiful graphics and lots of gameplay.

Fizzball This is one aimed at the kids but adults will love it to. Some very original gameplay and extra educational content in the form of quizzes and the animal sanctuary as well as a child mode for the very young ones so that they dont lose the bubble/ball

Riotball Tournament Great pong arkanoid tournament game. There's extra level packs available if you like this one.

Richochet Lost World with levels editor and access to thousands of extra levels. One of my top five favorites. Still stunning after 3-4 years of gameplay. Similar titles include rebound and richochet recharged.

Ultranium5 An unusual slant on arkanoid, with a space shoot em up feel to it. Took me an age to progress through the first levels. Very Challenging. If you like this Ultranium 4 is worth getting, but the first three are very basic.

Break In A totally different slant on arkanoid, with the ball coming from a 360 degree playing area, with bricks in the middle. Similar in concept to X-bound delux.

Z-Ball Gold Side playing arkanoid. Makes it hard after being used to playing from the bottom most of my life.

Adventureball A nice looking 3D arkanoid. The only 3D arkanoid I know that has a levels editor.

The following three I've added because they only cost between $5 to $14 and all three have levels editors and enought originality to make it worth having them if your an arkanoid fan.

Brick blaster 3D With levels editor

Crash ball With levels editor

Powball delux with levels editor

2-SHEDS is right. There are forums here for the self-important wind-bags delusional enough to think that everyone wants to listen to them drone on. You say few people read the forums? So what? So few people will read about your computing prowess...or your kids...or your mile-long dissertation on how to use disk defragmenter...lol?
Sure there's a scroll bar, but you still have to wade through page after page of complete and utter crap. Not long ago, I could scroll down a page before downloading a giveaway to see if people liked it, had problems with it, or wanted to recommend alternatives. Now we're swamped with nonsense about how someone chose their screen name or how many women work here, lol, or why you should always face the traffic when riding a bike.
I'm not saying that nobody in the world cares about these things. But I'm pretty sure that people looking for software don't give a fat frog's ass about how thrilled the li'l crumbsnatchers will be when they get home from school and see daddy's been at GOTD all damn day downloading games.
This site can be sweet deal for GOTD, the software developers who put their programs on here for free download, and us. But if you were one of these developers and you were monitoring these comments, would you be motivated to give away your best software, even for a day?
I give up. I don't know what else to say. But I can promise that this will be the only long-winded message I post here. It won't make a difference because too many people think they are so interesting that they'll post their egotistical garbage wherever the "audience" is.
If you want to flame me or have any snappy remarks, I'll be watching the forums. I've taken up enough space here, for which I apologize to the people who come to this site for the proper reasons.

Oh yeah and re comment #32 2Sheds... I post my comments here rather than the forums because I believe not many community members actually bother to go to the forums, so why waste time. At least my contribution was towards the game and not attempting to have a go at someone who actually does add constructive comments as aopposed to your totally unrelated comment. With respect to the forums, I've visited them occassionally, and do intend to visit more often, but until there's an obvious increase in interest I'll continue to use this comments section to air my opinions that are at least to the point(most of the time)

Re comment #13, your absolutely right with respect to getting a full version game free when downloading Wild Tangents game console. I actually got Blasterball 2:Holidays free. Yes it's an okay game that I would put on par with arcamania 2; both have their pros and con's. The third blasterball now has a levels editor, so if you really like the blasterball games go for the latest one. Unfortunately I've not purchased it yet because wild tangent dont accept PayPal.

Re Gameseekers reply to my first comment: As I said I respect your opinion and yeah were all entitled to our own. Maybe the offering today is buggy, but I must say the version I purchased played without bugs. Oddly, most of the time I do play with the sound off, so never really listen to Arcamania sounds although listening to them today I wasn't put off. Keep up your great reviews game seeker. Respect.. WR

Once again, I'd rather play good classics like DX Ball over this. This one isn't as bad as the retarded full 3D one from a few weeks ago though.

For that guy who doesn't believe there's good freeware, check out www.ijji.com for example. The games there are spectacular and are entirely free. GunZ in particular makes this site pitiful in comparison.

I'm a big freeware gamer, which is why this site is so appealing, yet every day I'm left completely dissapointed.

Please don't run down people who "complain" about the games offered. I read the comments and it helps me decide if I want the software or not. I'm very happy to have the opinions of others, pro or con. The software that I have downloaded, I have been happy with, but I don't take advantage of each day's offer. Thank you for the opportunity to get free programs and games that are safe.

Re: #8 WhiteRabbit, we agree to disagree.

I don't enjoy "lambasting" (is that what it was?) anybody's program, but had high hopes for this one and was truly disappointed. Tried to like it, but it just wasn't happening. Agree there's many bonuses, but catching one adds just one more startling noise to the already poor soundtrack. Additional sounds when catching bonuses sound borrowed from their Boulderdash clone Rock 'N Roll, but with increased volume. Finally had to shut off the speakers to continue this game. Then there were the bugs, such a disappointment. I don't mind clones especially when they add or improve something, it could have really been a good Breakout clone. But this one is strictly for especially enthusiastic Breakout fans, who might be able to overlook the soundtrack and maybe even the buggy programming.

It would be nice to see an arcanoid that's up to the quality standards of Phantasia II or one of the Realore or Alawar games. The quality programming, very nice graphics and terrific soundtrack of Phantasia II is proof that this developer is certainly capable of far better. By contrast ArcaMania 2 seems slapped together in a hurry.

Re: #9 Bubby:
Thanks, that was the aim, a critical review of the program not criticizing this site. This site is terrific but not every individual game that's offered. To say one loves every single game is just shilling. It's not about the particular genre of the game, I don't have a favorite genre, all games are entertaining diversions regardless of genre. It's all about the merits (or lack thereof) of the individual program. Agree it's annoying to see one-liners crying about why they offered Program A when the poster only wants Program B, that sounds like kids whining to their parents.

Re: #20.Hi Luna! I think you made a right choice, since almost nobody goes to the previous day's comments. Go to options, then click on "edit keys" above 1-st player, and choose whatever you like, and if you like arrows then choose left arrow for left, right arrow for right, etc. I chose space bar for fire, and it works, even though at the beginning of the game it shows that for fire I'm supposed to use CTRL-R, but space bar works, and I believe if it didn't, you have an option during the game to go back to options and try doing it again. Good day everybody:-)

Sorry, but this is a comment about yesterday's game Foxy Jumper 2... I was afraid that if I put it in yesterday's comments you might not see it. I am having a small problem. My lap top does not have a right control key. How do I fire? The only solution that I have found so far is to introduce the second player and use that figure to do my acorn tossing for me? The problem with this is to use the w-a-s-d keys to move. I like the arrows.

Veronica A, you're a complete moron. First, people have a right to complain because this site was made so that the companies can make money by showcasing some of their better games, if everyone says the game is great, then we'll be fed these terrible games, and nothing will get better. Secondly, there is only one World of Warcraft and XXVII is not a roman numeral. Please go back to highschool.

... just joking of course. Ok, so there are 100s of clones of the brick-buster game out there... I have to say though, my favorite version of this type of game is by Wild Tangent, called Blasterball 2: Holidays. Definitely check it out, it has to be the most addictive brick buster clone out there (www.wildgames.com). If you download their free game console, I believe they give you the option of downloading one of their games for free... something like that.

Blasterball 2 page: http://www.wildgames.com/ECS/htdocs/GameInfo.aspx?dp=wildgames&itemname=blasterball2holidays

As for ArcaMania2, well... I guess you can compare ArcaMania2 with Blasterball 2 and decide how good ArcaMania2 is...

Peaceout...

#10 - Maybe not illegal, but certainly cheap - If the developer expects others to register his game, yet is unwilling to register the tools he used to develop it. (Reminds me of the lengths some developers go to protect their software against piracy when their own product is designed to pirate others software)

#7 I think there needs to be some distinction made between a critical review of a program such as #5 has done, and the alternative which I have also seen complaining that program A is crap and that GOTD should have given away program B instead.

How can someone write a constructive review that is critical of a program or game quality or functionality - without appearing to be unappreciative or worse critical of GOTD offerings.

They say "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" - but what if you want to give it a medical - for the benefit of the breeder.

I'm quite disappointed in game seekers opinion as I've come to enjoy his reviews, but I must disagree on the lambasting that was given on this occassion, although I do respect your opinion. I've already purchased this game (as well as the first ArcaMania) and although there are aspects that don't come up to scratch by todays standards, this is amongst the top 20 arcanoid clones within my collection of over 140 bought arcanoids. It's several years old, so with that in mind don't expect the most beautiful graphics, that said, the game play is actually rather original in places. You have three levels of play each level being represented by a different theme. Space Odessy is the easy Scenario, Treasure Island the medium and dungeon the hard scenario. You also get a training session, which I suggest you should try first, especially if you're not an arkanoid freak like me because the game controls are a little different from the usual arcanoid. For example your ball is presented centrally above the bat, so make sure you have your bat under the ball when you activate it (by right clicking on the mouse)
The game offers all the usual treats you'd expect from an arkanoid as well as some power ups I've either not seen in any other arcanoid or only very rarely. For example one power up adds a full row of colorful bricks somewhere in the playing arena, or a broken barrier below the bat to add a little extra defence against going out of bounds, another reverses the bat and yet another reverses the arena, both of these "negative" power ups really do make it difficult for all but very skilled players to succeed in keeping the ball in play. The lattrer two can be seen in games such as Arkon Toys and Wave Ball, but rarely elsewhere. Plus there are lots more power ups and bonus items to collect.

Personally I like the quirky music and odd sound effects. You get obstacles floating around the screen that adds to the playability of the game, and some of the eye candy is quite spectacular....crimson tracers shoot across the screen, following the ball, or white hot trails, depending upon which power up you've picked up. There's a regenerating utility that allows you to change the direction of your ball and enought levels to keep the most devoted of arkanoid fans happy for ages. You can also download a totally free scenario that is called ArkaMania2 Retro from either:

http://www.300ad.com/arcamania2_Retro.php

or

http://demonews.com/download-676.html

You'll find other freeware programs from the latter address. The Retro version is basically the same package as ArcaMania 2 with the training session and the retro pack added.

This is an appealing game in my opinion, and will give any arcade game lover a run for their money, or in this case their time, lol.

To all those never say gooders out there, you are entitled to your opinion, but please be a little bit more realistic in your condemnation of a game as some people will blindly accept what you say; about the only negative critisism above would be game seekers comment #5, which although I don't agree with is constructive and will allow people to make a more informed choice.

The only thing that detracts from this game is the lack of an options menu, but to be honest it's not really needed.

Thanks for continuing to offer such great games. I'm beginning to wish I'd not been so keen on arkanoid games as so far most of what you've offered apart from Troll and Arkanoid The Virtual Isles I've already purchased, lol. "Cest la Vie"

I've been noticing a trend on these comments. mainly that people like to complain. It's free for frak's sake. If you have a criticism about the program in that it won't install or files are corrupt, cool that's legit. but if all you want to do is whine about how it's not world of warcraft XXVII then go tell your frakkin' mom. It's not like you HAVE to download it. I have been having a blast trying out new games and my son loves some of them also. okay i'm done...now to blast bricks.

This is such bad Arkanoid copy that I would not get it even if it was free everyday. The sounds are horrible and too much happen all the time at the screen. The lack of opions also makes me a bit sad.

Allows up to 4 players and saves scores for each. Gives choice of 4 different scenarios by difficulty: Training (self-explanatory), Space Odyssey (Easy), Treasure Island (Moderate), and Dungeon (Hard). Works with either arrow keys or mouse so choose your preference.

Game play is OK, like any other Breakout except that the pad flexes up and down. ("Advanced aiming"?) The program is a little buggy. Using ESC and then choosing Leave doesn't always let you leave. Sometimes it restarts the level even though you chose to leave, it does this most often. Sometimes it goes back to the Choose Scenario screen, sometimes it goes back to the Choose Player screen where you finally get the choice to Quit the game. Don't worry, the Quit screen will appear .... eventually. On different levels in different scenarios sometimes mysterious extra balls appear despite being past "0" on Lives, other times player is shorted a ball.

Description mentioned "full scenario graphics" but the graphics here are just average, not great. Bricks look like any other 2D Breakout, floating characters are poor and should have been left out. Backgrounds are poor in Training and Space Odyssey, not much better in Treasure Island, and best in Dungeon but "best" is a relative term here. Soundtrack in all scenarios is awful, truly terribly awful, one of if not THE worst soundtrack I have ever heard in a game. Uninstalled.
