Giveaway of the Day - Aqua Digger 3D

Aqua Digger 3D
September 21, 2007

AquaDigger is a shining 3D arcade game based on classical dig-and-collect-all-the-treasures concept. Some things just never die and the digger idea is one of them. Now it is greatly revisited again in AquaDigger.

Get ready for some underwater action. Now the game field is a bottom of the ocean. You’re controlling a oyster and your aim is familiar yet still exciting: collect all the golden coins while evading hostile spiny sea-urchins. Marvelous pearls grow inside you slowly. From time to time you can spit out a ripe pearl on your enemies to destroy them. You can also push off chests to make them fall on the heads of your enemies.

Game features rich 3D graphics with particle effects (such as bubbles of air), lens flare, dynamic gamefield, animated 3D backgrounds and sharp characters.

  3. Today’s ‘Giveaway’, was originally given away back in Dec 06. It is a simple installation with a combined activation and setup icon; so it should activate automatically. I noticed one person above said it was still in demo mode. I don’t know how this could happen, unless you installed it, but didn’t leave the play game box checked. (Supposition only) On starting the game you can select your screen resolution up to 1280×1024 and toggle between windowed and full screen. There is a button for the manual, but I couldn’t find it amongst the files on my C: drive, which is where you are taken if you click on it. The options menu gives you the usual music and sound control sliders as well as a key binding’s link. The controls are very simple, up, down, left, right and fire.

The game is a basic Pacman/Digger clone which emulates 3D graphics. The combination of the two genres makes for an interesting game. My children loved this the first time around, so I would say children between the ages of 5 to 8 will probably love it also. For the younger child, it will give them a good grounding in keyboard control of a moving object on screen, as well as develop their motor and planning skills.

You are a clam with large eyes, chomping/digging your way through what looks like algae, uncovering and collecting gold coins. The round ends when all the algae are removed. During the game there are lots of bonuses to collect such as Extra Lives, Freeze, Fury, and Canon as well as treasure chests that need to be moved before they open up, giving you larger than normal gold coins or other bonuses to collect. The bonuses are all time limited.

The music is rather bland; although turned down to a bare minimum, (IMO) is probably acceptable. Unfortunately, unless you are confident at editing the data files with a reasonable text editor you’re stuck with the music that’s provided. I’m sure some will find it okay.

This is quite an entertaining game for short periods; probably ideal in windowed mode for that craftily played moment while at work.

There were only a few comments the first time this was given, although it did get 94% thumbs up from 58 comments. Considering it was only 9 days into the start of the game giveaway site I think that that was okay. The following link will take you to the comments section where 25% of the comments were made by me, (lol)
