Interesting game, good graphics, but waaaaaaay to easy. I'm currently at level 37, 405K in points. Definitely need the harder setting ;)

After playing it for some time now I must say: One of the best arkanoids I ever played - but only on "hard". In medium difficulty setting the game is too easy for my taste.

I down loaded the game activation worked great but to go install the game I get ( Invalid floating point operation ) have no clue what that means at all. So I went to the mirr site and downloaded it again activation worked great but I got the same message when I tried to install the game. I didn't have this problem with the Dragon game. Does anyone know or understand what that message means and how to fix the problem never had that message before and sure don't understand floating points operation. Any help would be appreciated.

#53 Sheart, the reason it's going to the desktop is probably because some program is running in the background. I know one person found he had a toolbar program that would cause the game to minimize. I have a reminder program that, when it pops up, some games will minimize. Check what other programs you have running in the background that might be causing this.

Has anyone had any problems with saving the levels? Made it to level 21 before quitting then went back later to find out I have to start over. Other than that the game is great.

I forgot to add this to the end of my first post today. It's been hanging around on my desk top for a week. It's another freeware arkanoid that will probably only appeal to arkanoid fans, but I thought it good enough to post a link to.

It's called Ultra Flexball 2000, that has over 300 levels of reasonable game play if you download the extra level sets as well. The graphics are ‘cheap’ by today’s standards, that is 16 bit, but really for a brick busting machine, that’s not a problem.

This is well worth a look see if you like arkanoids

It's available from:

http://web.telia.com/~u92118145/index.html

Sorry for the multiple posts

This looks like a fun game. I downloaded it but unfortunately the little crab-shooter thing disappears on me as soon as I try and start the game. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice (in case of a glitchy download) .. but am still running into the exact same problem. :(

I downloaded from both links and all I got was the 60-minute demo. Reading through the comments I see it happened to a couple others as well. But what about the rest of you? It appears you got the full version. So what's going on? Grrr.

Not bad Breakout (good enough for a thumbs-up), but a little slow and uninvolving. I would like to see some of the Ricochet series here. That's the real thing.

After my last attempt at an Alawar game was unsuccessful (Tiny Worlds), I had to try this one. It's very similar to Magic Ball 3, whose sound effects give me the giggles. I found it very choppy and slow to respond with the mouse at first. I moved the mouse speed to max and it still wouldn't respond smoothly. I changed it back to the default of full screen and that solved the problem. It works great now. I just wish I was fast enough to catch everything when the mines go off!

It works great under Vista Ultimate (32 bit).

I'm sorry you had problems with the game Merril, (as well as losing all that work) as it is one of the more enjoyable games offered here (IMO). Have you checked your graphics card, or on board Graphics emulator as I think you may need at least a 64Mb memory on the graphics card; which most emulators don't have? (They’re usually 32Mb I think?); although I'm not totally up on the latest motherboards. You definitely need some sort of emulation as Direct X is required for the game to run properly. Maybe redownload and instal Direct X. You wont need the latest one though (DX10) You could buy a 64Mb graphics card for the price of this game though as 128Mb and above are the norm these days. Get in touch with me via Whiterabbit-uk at hotmail dot co dot uk as I may be able to help you on that score, for free. ;)

For those who love arkanoids, Urse Games have just released a further episode of their great breakout Nuclear Ball, not surprisingly called Nuclear Ball 2. It’s much the same as the first. With the same bonuses and the same composer who did the music for their first offering Gem Ball. I’ve only played it for about 30 minutes so far so can’t be sure if its more of the same, although the extra life points look different on the latest one and the intro screen and arena style look different as well as some new bricks. I would have expected there to be at least one new power up in this latest release; but being a collector of reasonable to great arkanoids I’ve decided to buy it anyway. :) It’s available from Reflexive Arcade, whom I’d hoped would join this project as they are similar to Alawar in their quality games, although they have many more games to offer.

http://www.reflexive.com/index.php?PAGE=GameList&SORT=Age&CID=23308

I’m in the process of ascertaining whether my bought copy of Nuclear Ball has the same problems that seemed rife when it was offered here back in May, (I missed it due to being in hospital, but bought it anyway) that is the problem with level 29…I’ll be reporting my findings soon in the forums (I’m on level 20 at the moment) and maybe when the next arkanoid is given away for those who like me don’t visit the forums as much as I should.

PS Merril, don't uninstal Aqua Ball using the uninstaller as I may also be able to give you a different version of Aquaball, which if you still have the reg code within the registry (by not using the uninstaller)should install as a full version as it may be the giveaways copy of the game that could be the source of the problem. I know that some programs downloaded here are not the same as the ones you download from the homes of these games. Try Alawars own version first then get back to me if it doesn't work using the email above.

It's always great to see Alawar games offered on this site, so I was especially delighted to see this one repeated since I had missed it the first time around. What a great game...a new slant on the usual arkanoid games. Really smooth gameplay, great graphics and relaxing music. Thanks for another winner, Alawar & GGOTD!

Thanks GOTD and Alawar,

Once again this is definitely a keeper. I like simple game like this (I play 'Easy' level :) ) Compare the previous Pirate version, I like that better. Today giveaway the graphics are beautiful. Music not too favor, maybe something less 'stressful' cos this music make me nervous. A more soothing and relax music may be better. No offense as this is just my personal opinion. I still really appreciate what this site and all the contributors till now. :)Have a great day everyone!

If you liked MagicBall 3 offered a few days ago, you'll like this one. It also seems to work better on Vista than MB3. The mouse didn't handle as well in MB3...perhaps because you can change the mouse speed on this one, I don't get that. There's also quite a bit more ricochet action off the sides. OTOH, it's harder to catch the bonus items so it's more of a challenge.

I also like the "relax" feature where the menu disappears and you get to view a nice beach scene with moving clouds. If you like breakout or pinball type games, you'll find this quite enjoyable. Played on Vista Home Premium.

I got this the first time around and I still play it from time to time. I think it is the best Arkaniod style game ever offered by GOTD.

Things that make it special:

1) The oval playing Field makes it more challenging
2) You can apply spin to the ball and make it curve. Lots of fun.
3) The graphics are very nice.
4) The music is pleasant and catchy.

Upon downloading the installation went smoothly (#20 don't miss out on the full game, uninstall the game and rerun the installation ensuring you click on the Activate before Set-up and it should work giving you the full version with no time limits, I once had a game from here that gave the timed mode but the Activation for some reason hadn't taken and reinstalling fixed it) on XP SP2. I opened the game up and liked the film-style logos and also that of the game itself,a close up of the ball with which you play with beautiful shine on it. The game took (no joke) 11 minutes to Load but I was captivated by the beautiful beach scene with realistic clouds, ocean ripples and swaying Palm Tree; I especially loved the subtle Moon that hangs majestically between the rolling clouds, the whole image has had much thought pur into it - and this is only the opening frame!!

The game menu then displayed with an enthusiastic "Hi!" but this is where my problems began, I noticed that the game cursor was not miving but my ordinary mouse arrow was still there although was not doing anything. So I typed in my name and pressed Enter and it took me to the screen where you can choose to play, at this point I could not do anything at all, ultimately pressing Enter again which took me to the game itself.

In the game, nothing would work, the game would not even begin, it just stayed as the robotic crab you control with the ball on top. 43 minutes later after pressing Escape with no response other than "Are you sure you want to quit?" message that wouldn't do anything, Task Manager pressed about 129 times and the Windows and D button frantically trying to get the sunken ship off my screen I realised that I had no choice but to switch my computer off by unplugging it from the wall - and losing most of this morning's unsaved FrontPage work

I did have a lot of windows open so thought that maybe the problem had been caused by that and after sitting through the disk checking saga of unplugging the PC, I tried the game again. This time I got to launch my ball and the whole game went off and was not listed in Task Manager. With a sigh I tried it one last time and this time it played as it should, however the graphics were not as crisp as they should be so I paused the game and went to the Options menu; I opted for a different resolution and pressed Apply - upon which the game shut down and started itself up again in Windowed mode with the Loading page meter crawling along. At this point I came to write a review...

From the little that I played of the game it is beautifully designed. My screen resolution is 32bit and 1028 by 800 pixels but the graphics were not crisp and the lines were jagged, whether altering the screen resolution would change this I do not know but to have to sit through the application re-loading itself to test out different resolutions is just too much, especially when I have little time due to having to start my website building work over because of it :-(

From the screenshots the graphics are incredibly beautiful throughout the game and from what I saw of the first level with realistic floating fish and gorgeously coloured and designed targets it is a relaxing and ingenious Arkanoid game. I like the way the game opens with the beach scene and you know that soon you will see that rippling ocean from a whole new spectacular angle as you explore the sensational depths of the sea. I also love the way the targets have been designed, the ones that you have to hit 3 times to destroy being for example a treaure chest of glistening gold that you first break the lock of, then open, then remove from the board collecting fallen treasure - it's all just so lovely.

The music is motivating and incidental, it is not a "tune" as such and I do not think I would find it irritating even after a long game - in fact, it adds to the atmosphere as much as the graphics and you therefore forget it is there.

There are so many locked levels to the game and I am sure it is as much of a joy to continue through as it is to play the first level. Once finished you can add a whole new dimension to the game by making the mouse go slower so that you have to work harder to reach the ball in time.

With 3 difficulty levels and the addition of being able to control the mouse speed, something I have not seen in any other Arkanoid game other than with power-ups, this is surely a game that most people of all ages will enjoy - I just urge you to save your work and close unnecessary windows/ applications before play as for me I lost a lot of work which I now have to start over and had no choice but to take the risk of unplugging my PC without shutting it down when the game crashed, the other 2 attempts of play unfortunately not much easier.

Nice twist on the ol' brick games - rounded walls.

Also, I noticed that all the levels are just XML files - is there a level editor available? Shouldn't be too difficult to get one up and running.

Before I comment, I want to thank GGAOTD. & Alawar for another great free giveaway. I already have Magic ball 3 and love it. Now this game. Perfect. I just downloaded it, but have not installed it as of yet. I didn't even have to read the reviews in order to know this is a good game.
Funny thing is, I was just at Alawar's site the other day and was going to download the free one hour trial, but got side tracked. And, what do you know, here it is being offered as give away of the day. Perfect ! thank you GGAOTD. & Alawar.
One small piece of advice to everyone here. I to have lost games etc. do to a hard drive crash. Invest in some type of hard drive image software. I use Norton Ghost.
The last time I did a complete image was when we had Magic ball 3. So, with todays free giveaway, I will be sure to do a complete drive image at some point today as well as install this game on all 3 of my computers. This way, I never have to worry about not having this game or any other game for that matter.
However, I would pay the full asking price as I think the price is fair.
I am glad this is a repeat from December 2006 because I never found this site till late April or May of this year.
Thanks once again GGAOTD. & Alawar. 2 thumbs up.

I think this is a great game. You can call me old school or even stupid, but some of the newer games these days are just beyond me...too much to remember and figure out how to do...they just aren't fun. This one is good for kicking back and PLAYING at the end of the day, rather than getting all stressed out all over again.

It has a lot of similarities to "Roboball", which was offered a while back, and is still in use on my computer! However, Aquaball seems a little smoother.

Thanks for the awesome game!
