Hi Laptop 57, have you tried on of the many other freeware file archivers? I've listed several in the FAQ's found in the sticky secxtion of the Game discussion forums.

Thanks so much for trying to help! I did try several different archive programs and at least one said the file was fine so I extracted it to my desktop but it didn't run. I just downloaded today's game with no problem whatsoever so who knows. I guess there was just a Ghost in the Machine yesterday! lol

Cest la Vie. If you really wanted to play the game, you could download the free MyPlayCity version. Do be careful not to forget to uncheck the toolbar and home page change checkboxes everytime you boot the game up. :)

Thanks a lot. I love this type of games. I'm pretty fed up with physics and Hidden Object games too! Adventure, arcade, arcanoid, board games and card games, mahjong are good. Also RPG, RPS and action and Time Management are great too.

P.S. I had no problem with downloads on GOTD or any other site today. Thanks!

I've been trying to download this game all day and the zip file is always corrupt. I've used DAP and the regular Windows download program, it doesn't matter. And I did not install SoundFrost the other day. This is the first time I've had this problem in over 3 years of using GOTD and GGOTD so I don't think it's me, espeically since I've working on and programming computers for over 30 years now. HELP! Thanks :)

Hi IamaDreamer
Have you tried using a different file archiver to the one you usually use? I've had this problem a couple of times, not just from the giveaway site (Direct 2 Drive). I found using a different file archiver such as 7-Zip or J-Zip worked. I've listed several different free file archivers over in the FAQ's section that I've linked to via my review above.
Someone came up with a different reason fopr this last week, but the reason escapes me at the moment (just woke up). So long as you have a file downloaded, you can often still install and activte a game giveaway for around an hour after the giveaway ended. If a different file archiver doesn't work, check over last weeks comments.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I searched through last weeks comments. Lee posted the following:

Okay, its way past my bed time (almost 3am). I'll continue to moderate later this morning, before the end of the giveaway, so if anyone does have problems I will 'try' and help sort it. As I've said in my review; if you do have problems getting the game to install, download or work, post a comment in the forums as well. Community members may see it before I get up in the morning and may be able to help.
Also check out the FAQ's that I've posted in the Game Discussion sticky section:

I downloaded it and tried it. Still didn't like it despite trying it as I can't stand time management games. My life is stressful enough sometimes without stress coming from a game as well. I play games to relieve stress, not increase it...

Hi Avid Gamer,
I agree totally. The only TM games I've ever found enjoyable to play are Alawars Farm Frenzy franchise.

Hi, I just wanted to comment on your concern for more people posting comments. I never have time to download & play & comment on a game all on the same day. And, though I sometimes am able to go back and find (recent) games to make comments, it doesn't appear that you are very interested in them then. I regularly visit your site, but I only download about 1-2 times per month. So, I don't know if this matters much, but I figure a portion of your 16K downloaders might feel similarly. I'm happy to comment on every game I try, but I'm not going to do it the same day, or even the same week. Sometimes I don't actually play a game until weeks after I've downloaded because it looked interesting. So, perhaps instead of the immediate link on download that you currently have, if there was a reminder after playing the game & an easy link...and if I knew you'd actually want comments...whenever...I'm sure I would make more. And maybe others would, too! Thanks so much for your efforts & games; hope this comment helps in some way.

Hi ecomama, thanks for your comment; yours and those preceeding it from the point I posted my rant have made me think more on this. You're probably right about a portion of the community feeling similarily. It has been pointed out before.
I can promise you that I always return to moderate all comments. Some community members do return weeks after to post a comment. You just wont see them unless you go to the specific page that the game was posted to. If you posted a comment now about a game from three weeks ago, it wouldn't appear here on this page. It goes with the comments on that particular games page. However, I will see it mixed in with the comments for the current game, so I will always moderate, and if a query is asked I will answer it to the best of my knowledge.
I don't as a rule check the comments every day. I usually have a look on a Thursday morning, then again Friday evening (which is when I also discovewr (usually) what games will be given away on the upcoming weekend.
:idea: I do think that the comments would be more constructive if community members did spend a few days playing the game before commenting on it and suggesting improvements. Evewn when they have completed the game, however long it takes. All the giveaway team need to do when talking to developers is to say that comments appear weeks after the gasme was posted, so that they would then know to check later. :) (in an ideal world, lol)
I tend to play most of my games when I'm in the mood to play,and not when I first purchase them. I've still got games I purchased over the Christmas period and beyond that I've not played yet, but I do tend to purchase far more than I can play in a reasonable amount of time.

@ whiterabbit - you do an exceptional job of reviewing, which givess developers enough incentive to put their games here! No other comments are needed! I enjoy the reviews and what can any of us dudes post that can beat your statements! Your reviews cause the high downloads and probabable increased sales! I've downloaded mutible games, songs, ebooks etc today from all over the web! Spend only
few seconds per page! Your reviews are more postive for gotd then our comments and get developpers more then a few seconds reviewing their games!! A song to cheer you up

Awww! thanks Wot. Do you realize that tune is going to be popping up in my head all day tomorrow and i'll be going to sleep with it spinning around in my head. ;-)
To be honest Wot, most of my reviews are very formulaic. I keep a basic copy of my review structure with all of the headings and the basic installation paragraph. I then fill in the gaps. I don't think my review are as concise and erudite as they used to be. I'd like to add more body to the reviews, but I never seem to put aside enough time to do it. More often than not I don't find out what the games will be till Friday evening. (Though recently they have been posting details on Thursday or even earlier), but I forget to check till Friday (out of habit). It can take me literally four or five hours to complete a review if I've got to take screen captures, upload them, and write a full review, covering all aspects of the game and that's not counting the time I'll have spent playing the game and taking notes.
I do believe that there are a lot of community members that could post much better reviews than mine. There have been several members over the years since the game giveaway started that posted regular reviews. Unfortunately none of them kept it up for long. Life got in the way.
Again thanks for your kind words.

Well! We are properly spanked, Whiterabbit! ;-)
I haven't downloaded this game because I'm not a fan of Time-Management (I get enough of that in real life), and I have a lot going on; but I'm tempted because it's an Alawar game, and the graphics are bright and very attractive...
The high download number could be because people having trouble with download are trying it 2 or 3 times each -- I've done that before today.
Please don't take criticism to heart -- we know this is a volunteer effort, that you put a lot of effort into your reviews, and that you have a lot going on right now (and I enjoy your life updates too!)
Thanks for all you do, Stephen, and thanks to GGOTD and the developers for the games: I never would have known about Alawar and Playrix without this site.
(You don't have to post this)
..............................Moderator comment...................
Hi Mac, thank you for your comment. I don't take it to heart (well, most of the time) :) . It just saddens me (if that's the right way to express it) that there seems little effort made by most community members to improve the possibility of getting more and better games by giving useful feedback. I would never expect everyone to post feedback, in fact, perish the thought. I'd be moderating for days if there were so many comments. :) I used to calculate the percentage of comments to the number of downloads and the highest I've seen it was around 0.1% That would be considered not very significant statistically. I suppose because I've always posted a comment when I've downloaded a game I've found it hard to understand why others don't. I suppose what will be will be (lol). Also some community members are busier than others. Since my accident in 2005 I've been retired from work, and spend most of my time in the home, so I suppose i have more time to 'waste' doing this than most. One of the reasons I've continued for so long is because I've made some good friends via this site and it also keeps me active and less likely to go bonkers because of being stuck at home 24/7. It also makes me feel useful, so I've got a lot more to feel thankful for than just getting free games compared to most community members. :)

Dude! You said yourself that you weren't going to be be around today to moderate. Why post a message if it isn't going to be uploaded until hours later? Today, evidently it was over 10 hours!
And truthfully, after what happened earlier in the week with Soundfrost, it's going to take a little convincing before I feel completely safe downloading from this site again.
I didn't download the game today. I hate all these Amelia's TM games.
..........................Moderator comment........................
Hi Swamp Thing,
With respect to me not moderating all day; its just not been possible because of the house I purchased recently. We want to move in as soon as possible so that we can rent the property we are living in at the moment; but until certain work has been carried out, its not practical to move. We are keen to move ASAP, unfortunately the only time we can spend a signifivcant amount of time at the house is each weekend. Just because I'm not moderating every hour like I used to do shouldn't stop community members posting comments; they will still be moderated, just later in the day. I still try to answer all queries despite having limited time. I've often spent a couple of hours working through the comments community members have posted once I've arrived home. There has been as many as 60 or 70 for me to moderate over the past several weeks. Which is why I was surprised to see only a few comments posted since I last moderated.
The problem with Sound Frost is the first ever incident of a possible problem with Malware. The malware attached to the program was hidden from my security software as it was from the giveaway teams. They use several of the latest malware suites to check all programs given away. Whatever it was, it must have been so new, it wasn''t detected by anyones malware suites. No one to my knowlege reported a hit from any security program over in the giveaway cvomments.
That said, its not been proven yet that it was SoundFrost. I think it was, but I'm still not 100% sure because there has only been several posts saying the same thing has happened to them. On average over 50 thousand plus files are downloaded from the main giveaway site every day. If there was a problem, many more users would have complained.
It seems most community members haven't been put off by the scare. With an higher than average download numbers (i.e. 16 thousand), the game giveaway site is busier than usual. TM games aren't as popular as HOG's and Match 3's, but todays TM game is doing a roaring trade, and beating a lot of the match 3's and HOG's w.r.t download numbers. despite its mediocre 51% positive vote :)
p.s.
There is another moderator. Granted they only moderate 2 or 3 times a day, usually mid morning, mid afternoon and mid evening.
You've always seemed a reasonable community member; can't you see what I've tried to say, w.r.t. posting decent feedback? I know we don't see many developers posting here, but that's not to say they don't read the comments; and, as I mention in my rant, the giveaway team are always trying to bring new developers into the project. I'm sure they too would be checking out the site. When they see the quality of comments for most games, what's the impression you think they'd get. Imagine you were a developer considering giving one or more of your games away. Do you think the commments we see every week are inspiring enough to consider giving your games away for free? I very much doubt it.

Until now, I've been trying to download and install all of the positively rated games, which sometimes took me more than 22 hours vis SIM card, then followed by a great deception: After unpacking the files with jzip I was unable to activate the giveaways! Can you please consider that some people do not have a fast DSL line and compress them more? Furthermore, I would be grateful if you could provide a key with the download which would allow me to activate the demo version if activation of the giveaway fails. Thanks!
..............................Moderator Comment...............................
Hi Laptop 57. Did you try to activate the giveaway 'after' the giveaway was over or were you within the time allowed before the giveaway ended? Sometimes you can activate it for about an hour after the giveaway so long as you managed to download the files, but this isn't always the case.
As for providing a code. this would only lead to some uploading the games to peer to peer sites to share it forever with the world. That pratice wouldn't be good buisness sense for the giveaway team because developers who donate these commercial games assume that after the 24 hr period you can no longer activate the games. Codes sometimes are provided, but very rarely.

The Amelie series is worth trying out since you can actually complete the games and not be so stressed out that you can't think clearly! Clicking isn't too bad; the storyline is cute; you can replay levels to get better results -- the list goes on! The game has more things going for it than against it ... The game is divided into cafes that give you automatic new dishes, but you have to decide upon what types of upgrades you will buy. Obviously, the more money you make, the better upgrades you can purchase for either the staff or the cafe itself. It gets a little hectic at times, but you can win each level at Expert in the Career mode; I have not played the Survival mode for more than a few minutes (too much clicking and not relaxing). I recommend this series; the graphics are great and the game is something that you can complete and win!

Normally I don't care for these kind of games but Alawar seems to have a forumula that makes these kind of games easier to understand and play versus the other developers. Also the fact that I went to a big box store the other day and they had this and a couple other TM games on one disc. I got confused by the initial idea of this game but once you play through the first bits of the game it comes as second nature. The artwork and graphics are really well done and everything is crystal clear to see on the screen.

Amelie's Café: Summer Time:Installation:
Amelie's Café: Summer Time downloads to an 90.9 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.
The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.
Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.
To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is 88.6 MB in size and installs to the following path by default:
C:\Games\AmeliesCafe2.SummerTime_game
The path can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files. The game doesn't install shortcuts to the desktop and start menu programs list and there is no uninstaller. To delete the program you simply delete the installed folder. (Basically the game is free standing)..
Amelie's Café: Summer Time works on both my Win 7 & Win 8 computers.
I don't have a Vista or XP installation set up at the moment (and won't for several months until we move house later this year).
If you miss today's giveaway it's available from MyPlayCity (MPC) HERE 24/7, but do bear in mide the potential for toolbars and home page changes everytime you boot up an MPC game. You can also get the other three in the franchise (Amelie's Cafe, Amelie's Cafe: Halloween & Amelie's Cafe: Holiday Spirit) HERE (just look to the bottom of the page where all TM games are listed for links to all four games)
Introduction:
The first in the series 'Amelie’s Cafe' was given away previously on 2nd Sept 2012 where it received a positive 62% out of 328 votes with 22 comments which can be read HERE . Todays game is the second in the series and from reviews i've read is an improvement on the first one.
Reference: accessed
HERE 24th May 2013
The Game:
Amelie is back for another culinary adventure in a new game by Alawar, Amelie’s Café: Summer Time. After her success in the big city, our heroine decides to open a new café on an exotic island and to put her own business skills to the test again. We generally recommend this new time management release despite some obvious shortcomings.
The game features two modes, the story mode with 49 levels, and a survival mode with three different grades of difficulty. The story itself is not much more than a filler, repeating the “I’m founding a successful business” plot for the umpteenth time. And don’t be fooled by two modes and the number of levels - compared to similar games levels, are quite short, so that you should easily see the end of story mode after around two and a half hours.
Gamers who have already played the first Amelie’s Cafe will find that the basic gameplay of the sequel does not differ too much from it, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, a little more variation and challenge would have added a lot to the game’s overall value. The upgrades are nearly all the same as in the predecessor too; some of them being only decorative while others make your staff work neater or faster.
Your basic task is to serve various meals such as salad, ice cream, cake or drinks to customers at the counter or tables. Amelie delivers the orders, while staff members at the stations prepare the food. The pace of Amelie’s Café: Summer Time becomes fast early on, because you have to make sure that the stations of your staff are clean, orders must be delivered, and that new meals are being prepared.
On top of that, there is also a match-3 minigame taking place during every level, which is another carry-over from the first game. Five different symbols appear occasionally at the bottom of the screen and by creating matches of three or four of a kind you get various rewards. This adds a lot of depth to the game, since it strongly affects your play whether you go for sweets, cleaning, money, freezing or speed bonuses. Sweets will make your customers more patient, while speed makes Amelie walk faster. In fact, each of the bonuses is equally worthwhile, what makes this feature of the game even more interesting.
One of the weak points of Amelie’s Café: Summer Time is the rather short playtime and the lack of variation. It is great entertainment and offers good graphics and a fast-paced and quite challenging experience, but in the end the player might feel that the game is finished way too soon and furthermore that the levels seemed to be more of the same instead of really differing in customers, look and gameplay.
This becomes especially clear when some of the level descriptions state: “Just another day of work” and then “Another one...” Such descriptions hardly display any creativity or attention to detail by the developer, nor do they serve to continue the storyline. (If there had been any decent storyline to begin with.) On top of that, a new mini-game, some innovative upgrades, or at least cafés that are clearly distinguishable would have been welcome and needed additions.
Two other minor problems we found with Amelie’s Café: Summer Time are related to game mechanics. For one thing, it is impossible to cancel chained actions, which clearly is a pity. Also, the freezing bonus colors the screen light blue for a short time and it becomes very hard to recognize orders or to click properly.
On the positive side, the survival mode is definitely more addicting than similar modes in other titles. Here you can play, earn money, and upgrade your café until you have lost three dissatisfied customers, and the upgrades can be purchased by reaching certain amounts of money. Furthermore, there are a lot of achievements you can go for in every level of the story mode. Of course there is the run-of-the-mill expert goal, but you can also try to earn a specific number of bonuses that are displayed in the top of the screen.
As it is, Amelie’s Café: Summer Time represents a fast-food snack in the time management genre - quickly finished, lacking innovation and with a few minor flaws, but still satisfying and entertaining. In the current situation of the casual game market, a new time management game even of this quality is not that easy to find, so fans of the genre will definitely enjoy this one.
Game Features:
* More than 50 levels
* Three cafés to run
* Story and Endless modes
* Five bonuses to utilize
* Five achievements to earn
Music:
There's no way to change the music (unless you are a proficient coder), so, if you find it annoying, you can turn it off via the options menu and thewn play your own music via whatever media player you use. :)

Problems:
If you have any problems installing or getting to work today's game please go HERE for help. I've posted all of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.
If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and sometimes the grace period lasts for up to 2 hours, but more often than not 1 hour is the norm.
It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 800 games to choose from. Today's game is available from MyPlayCity HERE You can also get the other three in the Amelia franchise (Amelie's Cafe, Amelie's Cafe: Halloween & Amelie's Cafe: Holiday Spirit) HERE (just look to the bottom of the page where all TM games are listed for links to all four games.
If you do download any other games from MPC or the other free game sites (e.g. Jenkatt Games, Gametop or FreeGamePick) 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you uncheck the checkboxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, everytime you boot the game up. .
