I thought this game was really fun. I did find it to be relatively easy though. Maybe a good beginner Mahjong. I do love Mahjong though, and I will most likely play it through again. Thank you for adding it to giveawayoftheday.com! <

Thank you for your feedback Tara. Have you tried the four player version of Mahjong? I used to play it virtually every day as a teenager and even purchased an expensive set with bamboo and resin pieces Hong Kong Mahjong is one version of the four player game that I know of that allows you to play the traditional four player variety of Mahjong. There is also a free online version which you'you can play via your browser. Just follow the link:

http://www.y8.com/games/hongkong_mahjong

There's also a free downloadable version from a well respected abandonware site

http://www.myabandonware.com/game/hong-kong-mahjong-pro-309#download

You'll need to play the abondonware verion via DOSBox {probably}

You can get a beautifully crafted commercial version of the game from Ninedragons software (I purchased a copy back in June 2008, now they do three versions, one for net books, one for average screen monitors and laptops and one for large screen PC's. It's quite expensive for an arcade game (£14.73 or approx $22), but in my opinion it's well worth it. The computer opponents A.I. (artificial intelligence) is excellent and you can also play it with human players or a combination of human and computer opponents. You can even input your own picture into the game, so that your position in the game is shown by a picture of you. :)

Oh no - I've been missing this one - any chance to get it somewhere else?

.............................Moderator Comment........................

Yes, if you read my review you'll find a link to a free copy over at MyPlayCity (MPC). If you've not heard of MPC before, be careul when installing the game. Make sure you uncheck all the check boxes otherwise you'll find a new toolbar in your browser and everytime you open your browser it will oopen to MPC. When you close any MPC game down itr automatically opens your browser to MPC. This is innocous, just click X to cl;ose your browser and its done. :)

to moderator and Delilah at 49 : Delilah found the solution !! It was indeed at the caterpillars I got stocked, and after clicking the leftcorner caterpillar at first, all the rest continued smootly and I'm now in the following Mahjong. Thanks to you both, for the attention and solution!!

That's good news Kris, glad you got it sorted. Thanks again to Delilah for coming up with the solution. :)

Similar to @3 NIckys problem. Here the message is unable to connect.
Doesnot work even after disabling firewall & Antivirus.
The problem has started since last couple of days (GOTD) & now the same one resurfaces here.
Used to work fine earlier( 4-5 days GOTD, Last GGOTD downloads) with both firewall+ antivirus turned on.
Any suggestions

..........................Moderator comment.........................

Make sure Internet Explorer isn't offline. Click on file and look to the bottom of the drop down menu where it says work offline. Make sure that isn't checked. Even if you are using Firefox or another browser, you still need to make sure I.E. is set to work online.

If that isn't the problem, check the FAQ's which I link to in my reviews. You may find other solutions there.

sorry this was too late for Saturdays game. That said, if you managed to download the game, sometimes you can still activate them an hour or so after the giveaway has ended.

Hi,

Its a nice game. Nice graphics and layout, still near beginning of game. Its a bit simple, but good for younger ages and family game.
It did stall out on me a couple of times, but I'm using an old computer.
I'm looking for a newer one soon. Wish I knew what is the best at a reasonable price for graphics and games etc.

Thanks once again for a great site and games!!

Thank you for your feedback Lee. Post in the forums re buying a computer. you'll get loads of advice as to what to do.

It really depends on what type of games you want to play and how much you are prepared to pay. for example I love open world games with beautiful graphics, consequently I paid a lot of money for two graphic cards (around a thousand pounds just for the cards) so that I could max out the visuals on such games. That said, if your not intending playing the latest version of ArmA III (once it's out of alpha and beta), or games like Crysis 3, Dead Space 3, the latest Tomb Raider game or Battlefield 3, you don't need the most up to date computer.

Most of those games I've mentioned above still play on my four year old 3.2 GHz Athlon dual core with an old NVIDIA GTX 275 graphics card and 6 GB of RAM; I can't max out the graphics, but they still play and look pretty good.

You can pick up a second hand computer with those specs for around £50 to £80 via e-bay (that's if you don't mind second hand). After my son destroyed his computer a few months ago (I'd only built it for him six months ago) I decided, rather than rebuild it (he burnt out the motherboard and possibly the cpu as well) I was going to purchase a second hand one via ebay, then swap the guts to his new computer, which has a nice looking case with lots of cooling. I noticed there were hundreds on sale, virtually one every few minutes, and the prices were extremely good. I even saw a relatively up to date computer with an i7 c.p.u. and decent gaming motherboard going for just over £100. It lacked the peripherals such as keyboard and monitor and had no graphics card, but the motherboard alone would have cost over a hundred pounds to purchase. You can pick up some brilliant bargains, especially if you don't mind purchasing a part build. Computer are very easy to build; basically plug in and play. :) There are hundreds of tutorials on how to build them on you tube covering every aspect building a computer and virtually every component released (i.e. different motherboards, cooling systems, power supplies c.p.u's etc).

This game is so darn relaxing that you could play a few rounds before going to bed! The colours are pleasant, the music is soothing, and it's not timed or diabolically tricky --very nice, and Playrix's usual high quality.

If you don't like the HOG elements, choose "Classic" mode to skip them; and there is an option in the Play screen to light up free tiles, if you want to make it even easier.

Thanks, Playrix and GGOTD for this keeper; and, of course, Whiterabbit for the great review!

@21 kris: I got stuck on one of the HOG levels where you have to find 5 caterpillars, and the game recognized that I'd found all 5, but it wouldn't let me continue. (Spoiler alert!) The problem seemed to be the caterpillar in the lower left corner: it's too close to the menu icon, but when I clicked a little further away, like maybe on the caterpillar's antennae, then it worked. Also, I did that caterpillar first, so I didn't have to keep doing all 5 of them and still getting stuck. Hope you haven't given up & uninstalled the game!

Stephen is royal envoy 2 being given away on any of these other sites?
GGOTD has been dancing around it for 2 years now[giving away all the playrix titles BUT that one]

I bought v1 and it was given away 3 days later. don't want to repeat that.

...........................Moderator comment.........................

Hi Jan sen
I don't know if Playrix intend to give away Royal Envoy 2. It's not available on any of the free game sites yet. I've done similar when the project first started back in 2006 when we got games every day. I must have purchased at least 10 games that were then given away via the giveaway project. :(

Installed fine on Windows 7, 64-bit. Lovely game - a very enjoyable combination of two genres I enjoy - but I do find the graphics are rather pixellated which makes it look dated and does detract from the enjoyment somewhat (not to mention making hidden objects harder to find).

Installed and works fine on XP SP3. If someone's having a problem, maybe it's overzealous security software (I use Comodo Internet Security Premium Free). I'm a big fan of mahjongg and HOG, not sure about mixing them together, but I don't hate it. One thing I don't like are the "white gloves" which allow you (actually FORCE you) to complete the level prematurely. In "real" mahjongg there is no such thing - you have to remove all tiles the "normal" way. Didn't wait long enough to see the "unwanted hint" feature, but if it can't be turned off that may be a real bummer for some. I remember it from some match-3 games and if it turns on after 30 secs, I wouldn't hate it. Graphics nice, not great (or it wouldn't work on most computers, would it :-)). It's free, grab it, if you don't like it, uninstall and delete it. I think it's more suitable for kids, not adults and voted thumbs up.

This game worked very well on Windows 8 64bit. Enjoyable game, challenging enough to be enjoyable for an adult. HOG is silly, first few games, I found all the items listed without a hint. Last one I played (so far), the miss was in totally plain sight.

Thank you, Playrix and Game Giveaway of the Day for keeping up the good offers!

I love this game. The only thing that would make it better for me is if the clickable tiles were a lighter color than the unclickable tiles.

Playrix games are always good value - bright, colourful, and easy on eyes both old and young. They always have something a little bit different, something to surprise the player and intrigue her or him enough to keep us playing.

The artwork here is very inviting. It draws you in to explore the HOG location and hunt down the objects required. The background music works well with this game without becoming obtrusive (so far!).

The main Narrator's voice is good - Alice is the quintessential English little girl, so this slightly more grown-up version is just right. I was a bit nonplussed by the White Rabbit's voice, though! It must have been a different rabbit hole this time, I think. A bit deeper, or perhaps wider.

I haven't tried the level editor yet, but it's a good thing to include for those players who always get all the way through games and want to keep exploring further. I rarely finish games, I just like to enjoy the parts I can do.

A good game for those with families - and the non-violence is always a bonus. After all, Alice's tales were written for children in a different world, where children's innocence was protected and there were no nasty computer games to spoil it.

Thanks once again to GGAOTD, to Whiterabbit and, of course, to Playrix!

Found a solution to the "Unexpected error" message when running with a non-Admin account on Win7. I moved the game out of the Program Files (x86) folder and into a Games folder. I believe the problem is related to the game trying to update settings files which it doesn't have permission to access in the PF directory.

............................Moderator comment........................

Thanks for the feedback. :) glad you got it sorted. I always install my games to a different hard drive to the one my operating system is installed to and usually install into a game folder. Applications go into a utilities folder.

Win 7 64 bit, if I attempt to run the game with a non-admin account receive the error "Unexpected error occured when running the game." If run as administrator, game loads properly, however, doing so is an unacceptable security risk. First time I've had an issue with a Playtrix game.

......................Moderator comment........................

Thank you for your feedback Deb. I've installed all of my game giveaways run as admin and have never had a security issue. I really don't see that its unacceptable. Still each to their own.

It downloaded okay on my 10 inch Netbook windows 7 64 bit. There was a screen size issue [drops off to one side and passes bottom. I clicked on [troubleshoot compatibility mode] and it tells me to change it to XP SP2 recommended..... I also let my task bar drop down to get increased length in size........ I did, and now it works full screen.... I hope this answers the question for Netbook users.... Nice game, calming affect... Thanks GGOTD and Playrix !!

Hi Stephen

You really made me think why I felt embarrassed.
I now figured out that it is because it's like I'm playing in Tele Tubby country due to the colours and the big head/small body of the 'human' figures, it reminds me of toddlers ;)

My comment didn't mean to say that it was a horrible or useless game, but obvious nor for me.

Ah, the teletubbies. I used to watch those with the kids when they were toddlers. :)

I LOVE Playriz games! Playriz makes the BEST GAME IN THE HISTORY OF HISTORY OF HISTORY! That game is FROGDOM!!!

Alice in Wonderland is SUPER COOL! What's that the White Rabbit says? "We must, WE MUST, we must INCREASE OUR BUST!" No wait. That's wrong. That's what Alice says. The White Rabbit says, "I'm late! I'm LATE for a VERY IMPORTANT DATE!" We'll almost the same thing.

Hey, Stephen, this game is about the White Rabbit and you're the WHITE RABBIT! Is that cool or what! Was ALICE IN WONDERLAND your favorite book when you were a lil kid?

I love the GRAPHICS! They are amazzzzingly CUTE, more CUTE, and most CUTE!

MAHJONG games are FUN! I love them!!!! Hidden Object games are UNFUN! I hate them!!! BUT BUT BUT I hate the hidden object parts of THIS GAME less than I hate the hidden object parts of ANY OTHER GAME!

DING! DING! DING! This game is a WINNER!!! Thank you, WHITE RABBIT! You are the #1(!) character in the HISTORY OF FICTION! Well, at least for today.

Installed with no problems in XP sp3. 20 sec for game boot. You can 'uncheck' the box in options to silence the voices. I found it very annoying in the HOG part of the game. The Mahjonng part seems too easy so far (2 levels). Worth keeping for awhile to check it out.

16.Hi, after playing so many Games where obstacles are there to get you, to “rubbish” you, to catch you, to cut you out of a decent score.. – this and other Playrix Games are sheer delight, and for a change you can really relax and enjoy gentle challenges. Thumbs up from me and thanks GGOTD for another decent, graphically pleasant Game!:)

I play it on 1600×900 screen and have no difficulties spotting hidden objects, even if this Game in (my) full screen is not all that sharp (I can put up with it), but imagine if windowed, or played on really small screens it might be harder to include hidden objects challenges. One way or another – there is enough packed in this Game to satisfy anyone, I’m sure.

Very nicely done. The background music is soft and pleasant, without becoming annoying and adds to the experience. The "show free tiles" option is a nice feature and takes some of the guess work out of the game. The storyline is a classic and adds to the atmosphere. The special tiles give some welcome assistance. The HOG's are simplistic, but give the game another dimension. When exiting the game, it saves your progress; a feature that is sorely missed in some other games.
Overall, I give it a 10 out of 10. I would pay for this game.
Thank you Game Giveaway and Playrix.

I just downloaded this game with Windows 8 and am enjoying it! I am a Senior Citizen and like this game platform for helping "exercise" my brain. While some have said it was "childish", it is based on the fairy tale, so that is what makes it cute. I like that it is not violent, timed to the point of making you nervous or edgy. The graphics are cute, and I can see where this will be a game played by all generations in the household...from myself to the young ones.
Thank you GGOTD and Playrix!

This game is very enjoyable to me since I like both mahjong solitaire and HOGs. One downside to the game is that after a while, the game gives me a hint as to what to do next even if I don't want one. I could find no way to turn off this feature. It's probably useful for younger players of which I am not one. It keeps their frustration level down.

Installs and runs fine on Windows 8 Pro x64. First impression is it's a pretty ordinary combination of hidden object game and mahjong made more palatable by an Alice In Wonderland theme and very nice graphics/music. Worth checking out, although I see it as being more suited to children than anything most adult gamers will really get into.

I installed this game on Windows XP without problems. However when I try to run it, it crashes quickly after its loading window opens with the message "Unexpected error occured when running the game." My PC meets system requirements. I've tried rebooting, and changing the screen resolution, and also excluding the game's installation folder from my security program. I've never previously had problems with Playrix software.

Stephen, if you have any further suggestions I'd be grateful for them.

This game installed on Windows 8 just fine for me, and I had no problem playing it either. I really enjoyed the game, and as other people noted, I can definitely see this being a game that the entire family can play. I thought the graphics, music, and voices were well done, and while I did not have any problems finding the hidden objects, I will admit that they were a little small and might be a problem for someone who has vision problems or is not used to playing a hidden object game. I noticed that the font has been done in a theme that is probably very popular for children, but I did not have a problem with it since I just considered it to be part of the game. As a teacher, I can definitely see myself using this game in the classroom for computer time, hand-eye coordination, as well as a reward for younger children. I know that I will definitely get a lot of use, both personal and professional, out of this game, and I want to thank GGITD and the developers for giving me the chance to download, evaluate, and add a new game to my collection!! Also, thank you to Whiterabbit for your excellent preview and summary of the game.

A very thoughtful game that's full of character. I especially like the music and the voiceovers are a lovely touch that adds authenticity. There seems to be a lot in the way of content too. Thanks both to the developers and GGOTD for this offering.

The game downloads and works fine with Vista - many thanks for a very pleasant Mah Jong/HOG mix - two of my favourites.

I like the goofiness, and the graphics. Let's face it, Alice in Wonderland is a kinda goofy story, along with the satire, etc. Story lines for most casual games are much worse than this one. Some of the levels are quite challenging, and I like having the options to shuffle or restart, rather than timing out and/or having to hurry and worry about running out of lives, etc. Having a mode where you don't get the Hidden Object levels is good, altho I'm not using it. Just as I will most likely not be using the level editor, but I'm glad it's there for those who want it.

Quote from Whiterabbit..."Thankfully there’s no clouds of glitter to indicate where you can find any objects unless you use the hints"....
Sadly, you would be incorrect. While not glitter per se, there will occur a red swirl after about 30 seconds to indicate where a hidden object is hiding and on the Mahjongg puzzles open tiles will shake after a time to indicate the location of an open pair.
So, in effect, this is a timed game as i found myself trying to find a hidden object or a tile match before the red swirl or shaking pair gave away the location.
All in all it is a fun game to play and the one quibble that i have (which is a big quibble admittedly) is that there should be an option to turn off that "feature" as it makes the game (speaking for myself)less enjoyable. Perhaps some folks like the auto hint but i found myself finding the easy hidden objects then just sitting back and waiting for the red circular flash to tell me the location of the tougher objects to find.
That being said, Thanks Playrix for all that you have done for the community here on game giveaway..You've been kind to us, and thanks to you also Whiterabbit (not the one in the game ^_^)for your kindness also.

I like this game and am willing to pay for games of this quality. I expect to enjoy playing this game when I need breaks from something else. It isn't the most challenging of games, but everything works as it should. I think this game will give me a few hours of entertainment. Good graphics and sound.
