The most surprising thing about the game world is how it's constantly changing.
An untamed land of plenty lies before you, but the path to glory lies within you in The Promised Land, a casual strategy game for the adventurous at heart! Can you tame the New World before it tames you?
Travel from the deepest trenches of the Atlantic Ocean to the awe-inspiring wonders of Mars as you solve the greatest archeological puzzle known to man: the origin of Atlantis.
Manage five farms around the world and try your hand at penguin breeding and jewelry making in Farm Frenzy 3! Features 95 outrageously fun levels, 30 wacky animals and more upgrades than there are ears in a field of corn!
Help two orphans escape an evil spell in Whispered Stories: Sandman, an adventurous tale set in a fantastical world! Only your wits and keen vision can help you on this journey!
How do you kill the fish? It's been years since I've played. Other than jumping on their heads....I though there was a way to swim really fast, straight at them, but I haven't figured out how. Getting old I guess. Played and won this game a million times. lol

A bit late with the response, so I hope someone will still see this and pass it on to the developer.
I found a glitch on the 2nd bonus level between Stage 4 and Stage 5. "Get to the exit in 50sec without falling into the precipice." It will not give me the 30 out of 30 stars needed in order to unlock the 3rd bonus level. On the summary page it shows something like -2487/4?36 on top of what would normally be the 30/30 display, and no row of stars graphic is created. This wouldn't be a major issue if I was at least still rewarded my stars for completing the mission, and therefore able to unlock the 3rd bonus level, but as is, I have not received my reward.
Also, when I Alt-Tab to come over to my internet browser and then try to go back to the Alex Gordon window, I get the sound but only a black screen and no graphics. Switching between windows should not require me to have to close the program and reopen it.

Been reading the comments and see a lot about keyboard controls. If you have a laptop with an actual mouse {not the touch pad} you can easily play the game with just the mouse.
Slide the mouse to the right gets him moving, slightly upward moves him up, ditto for down, double clicking on the left mouse button allows higher jumps. Slight movements are the trick for control. Works very well.
Am using a USB mouse because I cannot control the touchpad properly and I dislike the optical mouse's requirement of batteries. You don't need an expensive one, got mine at Walmart for 10 bucks.

I like the game. It has a similar look and feel to Turtle Odyssey which I also enjoy. Thanks Alawar and GGAOTD!

I haven't downloaded any games in a while, but this looked too charming to resist. And it certainly was: The game opened to cheery music and a cute intro. Graphics, both for characters and backgrounds are nicely done, and animations range from very good to okay, but never poor. Having pieces of the area overlap the level itself was a a nice touch that made the game seem more polished. Sound in general is fittingly happy.
The game seems to be moderately lengthly, and the multiple paths in each level add a touch of exploration. Quite a few collectables are scattered around the levels, and the island upgrade system is a cute addition.
Gameplay is very easy to someone who grew up on old Mario titles on NES, but it's relaxing, fun, and perfect for anyone of any skill level to play. The game also explains all of its gameplay elements as you go, so no one will feel lost or stuck. Keyboard controls are responsive, and I'm very happy to see the ability to configure them to the user's liking, as that's something often left out of casual games.
Suggestions:
-Possibly work at a higher resolution for future games. It's very blurry, even letterboxed, at 1920x1080 when played at fullscreen.
-Some sort of widescreen support.
-Minor, but since ESC is pause, it would be nice if hitting ESC again would resume the game.
-Possibly make the upgradable island more customizable, such as choosing the placement of items (Fishdom's custom aquariums would be a good example of what I mean).
-Dialogue was somewhat poor in places and could use a little work.
Overall, I really am enjoying the general peacefulness of this game and will likely complete this eventually. Thanks Alawar and GGAOTD! A game with a cat protagonist couldn't have come at a better time, as I just lost my own cat.

During installation the game wanted to go the last Alawar game I had added, but I simply changed the folder name and had no problem.
It's a pleasant little game so far, not over-demanding, and the graphics and music are cheerful as ever with Alawar. It's easy enough to play one level during a break, and then go back to what you were doing. There's no blackmailing you into playing on!
I like this about a game - I don't want to spend half a day trying to find a vital artefact before I can move on, when I really should be doing something more important in the "real world" - whatever that is!
It's a game the whole family could play, I imagine, with enough action and humour to suit anyone from three to ninety-three. It wouldn't terrify either children or granny, which is something you can't say for all computer games.
A nice little game which was new to me, so - thanks, GGAOTD and Whiterabbit! I shall explore this further a bit later.

I HATE platform games - mostly! ;) But all the things that usually annoy me about them don't seem present in this excellent version of the genre. I won't go over the pros and cons, since I think this has already been covered well, but I will say that the temptation to try this game came from the comment regarding mouse use.
I really don't like using arrow keys in games, since (unless I watch my fingers) I really can't guarantee the right result. Yep, call me uncoordinated :P but being able to use the mouse swung it for me. :)
I played 2 hours straight today and actually had to stop myself from playing for a while. What a surprise discovery for me! The game plays well, responds to the mouse immediately and I fell in love with Alex ... lol
There's lots of replay possible with this game, as you can play a level as often as you want to achieve optimum results - 3 gold stars, which aren't really necessary to proceed to the next level. Depends how anal you are. I'm not happy unless I see the 3 stars.
Just as an FYI., I actually did get a platformer years ago called "Santa Claus in Trouble" by a German company, Joymania (who no longer exist), however, it's still completely free on several sites including Tucows or the following site, which I've chosen because it has lots of reviews if you're interested.
http://www.acid-play.com/download/santa-claus-in-trouble
While this bright and colorful 3D game only has 10 levels, I've never been able to get past level 6, it really is quite challenging.
Thank you Alawar (my favorite game company!) and GGotD for today's game! ;)

ok, a cat for a hero! i generally am very bad at these games since i really dislike using the keyboard to play, though with all the steam games i have i am learning to get a bit better at it. but with a cat in it how could i pass this up, i couldn't. played the first level and much to my delight as someone else here said the mouse works for everything, no trouble installing to where i wanted it on my xp home sp3. i do really like the games that alawar has a hand in and this is no exception. absolutely a thumbs up from me. thank you once again game giveaway of the day and alawar.
and of course, should i find any extra luck i will certainly send it whiterabbit's way.

Played 4 levels. Also played level 4 twice because of the standard convention of running into the gate that teleports you to the next level before you've cleared out all the treasure. You have to avoid the gate until you're ready for it. Ups the challenge, obviously.
The rating of this game would depend on how many platformers you've played. I'm not a hard core gamer, so I'll say for the average gamer this is a definite keeper. It's not as good as my all time favorite, Turtle Odyssey 2, but it's a pleasant play. More pleasant for me than the Turtixes or Turtle Lu. I'd say this is a good beginners platformer because the mechanics are fairly forgiving. I mean if you've got Alex in the general vicinity you want him, you're jump is probably going to be succesful, and it lacks some of the touchiness of Turtix. Getting Turtix to stand still and not walk off a small platform can get pretty frustrating. This also doesn't seem to require the kind of skill development that Turtle Lu seems to require, but it might be my unfamiliarity with button movement over mouse control. In fact, Alex seems a little too easy early on. Hopefully you'll need those early lifes later on.
Which leads me to some random comments: actually, I have used up some lives early, because I keep running into the turtles and because the panda can be tough if you get too close. Also bashing the fish can be hit or miss. I find jumping on them as effective as bashing them with the speed swimming. If that's not clear, I mean I think the game is vague on that. It's the right mouse button for speed swimming. The penguin is unspecific. In fact, the game has the standard flaw of some of these platformers of sometimes introducing tips AFTER they become relevant. 2 examples: you have to go back on level 3 to kill some of the fish because you run into at least a half dozen - mostly hidden under rocks so you can't jump on them - before they tell you how to speed swim. Also, you don't learn about double jumping, IMHO, as early as you need it. Turtle Odyssey 2 was that way, too. Turtix might be better in that sense.
I like the look, but ninja turtles and kung fu pandas? Really? Ok, samurai pandas, so I guess it's not that bad. Which led to a funny scene were a panda had just killed me and was punching thin air - it usually punches so fast you can't see it - with audible thuds, until I hit the reset button. It did glitch once, where, on my replay of level 4 it ended before I actually got to the gate - I was in the water, still. However, I'll chalk that up to a one time only glitch. I like the design of Indiana Alex, or better yet, Crocodile Alex. On the other hand, I find the penguins babbling to be distracted. Please try something else on their sound effect. Alex Gordon for a name? Why? Now what really would have been interesting is if Alex got captured and Alice went on the quests. THAT would be different. Most importantly, I hope Alex gets the squirrel girl at the end. She's cute and I'm not a bigot. Besides, having your own personal cheerleader is an attractive fantasy. LOL.
The island bit, unless there's some kind of reward for it, really doesn't appeal to be much. If I want a deviation from the type of game I'm playing, I'll play another game. I don't like these detours - like Fishdom's aquarium - unless they add to main game strategy or at least to acquiring points. I prefer spending money if there's some kind of strategy involved, not just filling of a screen with "pretty" things.
Finally, music, which is kind of a specialty of mine. I agree with those who said last weeks Action Ball music was too "arcady" for me. Though it makes sense you'd try for that. Today, with platformers I'm used to lighter music, though adventure music also makes sense. Still, you folks at Alawar might want to rethink some of the developer's music choices. Neither game struck me as having music that was immediately appealing enough to make me want to hear it over and over.
All in all, though, another keeper. If you like platformers, I'd say a bargain at $6.99.

Created it's own Games folder at - C:/Games/Aveyond 3-1. Folder "Alex Gordon" is in there. I was a bit surprised to see "Aveyond 3-1" and that it was not delivered directly to my Alawar folder.
In the credits it mentions it was published by Alawar developed by Dayterium on a PopCap Games frame work. Music and sound by Sands. Avayond does not appear in the opening sequence nor in the credits. It made me a little unsettled about the game, but I have come to trust GGOTD and especially Alawar name. I hope they have not been bought out and the quality and security slides.
The game plays fine on Windows7, fullscreen is a bit letterboxed, perhaps because I have a huge screen. That is actually preferable to stretching so I was happy :-) I love the game! The intro is more aimed at kids, but the actions are challenging for me. It keyboard controlled, I have dexterity issues. Using four fingers on one hand and three on the other worked best for me and I LOVE that the developer let me choose the keys for each action. At times I just found myself rapidly hitting three or four keys and the poor fox looked like a puppet on steroids. Locating all the items and secret levels, using ropes and swimming is not something that is common to many games of this type and the graphics are spot on. Rewards between levels to show advancement are amusing and I hope to get past my little hut on the beach soon!
I finished the first level and came back to give it a thumbs up, with a mention about that Aveyond 3-1 install issue.

Ok Win 7 x64 Ultimate. While not exactly full screen per option it is plenty big enough for play. Sliders & config controls. Game tips & easy save points as go along. Pleasant music for a change. Game along lines of Turtle ones. I'm not a real fan of these platformers but this one plays fair as to jumps and hearts can be regained - sneaky game had me kill a critter only to be banged by it when I submerged for more coins and either bloody thing was still alive or missed seeing a fresh one. Either way dinged me, lol. So for colorful effects and general gameplay 8.75/10 from starter look. Thanks!

Did not want to run on Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Had to run compatability mode to get it to run correctly! Screen just startedflashing and jumping around & had a hard time getting it to close. Using the Esc button wouldn't close the program. Had to get my mouse over the (X) button at top of screen, then wait for it to appear during one of its flashes and then click to close it. Then ran the compatability mode to correct the problem. Haven't run the full program yet due to having to use the keyboard settings. But am going to try a game controller when I get a chance. Wish the mouse was set up by default though. I hate having to use the keyboard for gaming & ussualy just delete the game when I find out that is needed to run the game.

1st download in ... so many weeks !! Thanks so much GGAOTD and Alawar :) So far I did not have problems with the new wrapper. My anti-virus system prompted me many many times that the file could be harmful, but always gave me the ability to let it proceed. So in the end, I managed to install the game, then launch it. And everything runs perfect ! (Windows 7, 64bit)
I had time to play three levels only. And I really enjoyed myself.
This is a platformer. Because of the stars and the coins that we need to collect, the secrets that we need to uncover, the exploration in all scenes, the statistics at the end of each level, etc.. it reminded me a lot of Supercow and Turtle Odyssey (which are 2 of my favorite platformers). And like with these other 2 platformers, levels are really different from one to another.
Some additions here, which I like very much : (1) we can get "hearts", which will help improve our health level. But we can also get "extra lives", which are even better !!
(2) with the money we collect in each level, we can make our island look better, by adding cabins, grass, flowers, a boat (in order to navigate ? or go fishing ?) , etc...
(3) when we are underwater, thanks to a precious command (sorry... won't spoil) we can defeat almost easily certain enemies. I do appreciate ! :-)
And... the graphics and musics are really nice. So, all in all, a good experience. BTW, the pace was okay, not too speedy, then not too stressful. In a few words, a great & fun platformer, for all ages, and for hours of enjoyment.
I missed just one thing (... or I did not see it) that is available in Supercow and Turtle Odyssey : a panel that would display our objectives : numbers of stars, secrets, and money to be collected (vs. ... already collected) - number of enemies to get defeated (vs. ... already defeated) But these are details. And the game is great and really enjoyable, despite this ;)

Installed and runs well on my Windows 7 computer. The game is your standard platform game where you collect coins, stars, and bonuses. It's an OK game.. nothing spectacular about it though. I admit I only played a few levels but it just didn't make me want more. To me it's just not up to the usual Alawar standards. :/
It is nice to see Alawar here though. Thanks Alawar and GGOTD. :)

I really like these platform games that Alawar Software creates, however I'd like to see next on their project agenda , HD remakes of this software. Every screen I've seen in this game, the background has that blurry illusion that I don't know if the graphics in every platformer game were compressed to reduce download size or? I'd like to see a higher level of quality (sharper background images) in the backgrounds and if they would be available, be given the chance to download the updated graphics separately from the website.

This is a very nice platform game. The 2D graphics are top notch and very well designed.
There are a surprising amount of levels in this giveaway! I made it to level 1-6, thinking I was near the end of the game, when I noticed the map screen scrolled a long ways ahead. I had only scratched the surface!
That means a relatively long-term play time and a good value.
Particular mention must go to the graphics, which are very crisp, colorful, and cute. The animation is smooth, and special mention goes to the "checkpoint" cheerleading chipmunk, which is spectacularly animated!
There's lots to do and many variations in the gameplay that gives it some interesting options over the typical platformer. Beyond the expected jumping and running, there's swimming, climbing and swinging on ropes, riding barrels, and so forth.
The lack of a "timer" for completing the level(s), which is normally typical of platformers, means the player can explore all the nooks, crannies, and secrets of each level at their leisure, which is a good thing.
Cons: I don't like it when action games use the mouse for menus and keyboard controls during the game. I like to keep my hands on the keyboard during the game. Keyboard navigation of the menus would be nice, rather than having to switch between mouse and keyboard.
Overall, a very slick game with many variations in action gameplay and lots of levels.

Looks like a classic jump´n run. Will install even this is protected with wrapper version 2.0. This is a self-extracting Winrar archive. Where´s the need for bloated software Themida that rises up the filesize of the download a lot?? You can easily make your own (self-extracting) archive out of the games directory to install whenever you want in the future!

Cute game, downloaded and installed with no problems on xp home laptop. Despite the options menu this game is easily controlled with the mouse. Response is smooth and quick. Did not install any shortcuts so if you want one you need to make it. Make sure you know exactly where you are installing, it will go there "only". I put mine on the desktop then moved it to my game list on the start menu.
Have played 2 levels with no problems at all, again, very good response to the mouse. Didn't try plugging in my game pad/joystick so don't know if it will also work with that but perhaps someone will give it a try and let us know.
Update on Fishdom premium-no end so far currently level 890, $9,261,765, most on one board 32,623 although I don't try for high score. Am wondering if it will go over 1 billion so will continue on for awhile.

I love this game. I got it years ago from Big Fish and like to play it again and again from time to time. Like the recently offered Turtix Rescue Adventures, it's another game of the jump and run categories, a fantastic kind of games, which has been laid aside from the software creators for quite a long time. Sometimes it seems that they only know three categories of games: Match three, hidden objects and brick breakers. Perhaps another great type of games will be rediscovered next: Pinball flippers. Back to Alex Gordon: It's still using the old 4:3 instead of 16:9 format, but it's running flawlessly on Windows XP and on Windows 7. Lots of fun will be guaranteed.
