As I have problems when game do not install shortcuts and your review did not have that info at the time, I took chance, was pleased to see it did. This is a great game have enjoyed playing off and on during the week.VERY NICE. Only one small problem I Had, after an hour or so play my cursor gets sticky, so I start using the touch screen.
Really like this game. Thank you

The game keeps starting over. I got to the end of the first section but when I opened the game to continue playing it began at the beginning again. I have tried 3 times.

...........................Moderator comment..................

Please read the comments from the previous time this was given away. There is a simple fix for the issue. I've linked to the previous comments in my review at comment #1 Please let me know if you fix it. i'll try and help if you continue to get the problem. :)

This is probably my favorite giveaways. The game is engaging, with beautiful graphics and enough challenge to make you want to keep playing. Once I started playing it, I kept playing it until I made it through the whole game. My wrist was pretty sore, but I didn't care.

I agree with the comments about wanting a "relaxed mode" and the ability to see the whole level. My suggestion would be to show that when the level is completed. I do know (or at least I think) there was a map button, but I didn't click it. Maybe that does this, but if it doesn't, it should.

I would also love to see an app version of this game for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. A great game that could easily translate to iOS, and therefore expand your market audience. I know I'd buy it for $1.99

I'm more than a little disappointed.

The stated purpose of GAOTD & GGAOTD is to help developers make their products better. Yet, the same games keep getting regularly recycled and WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM IT DOESN'T GET FIXED.

It's inexcusable that this broken software is reissued without being fixed.

Stephen, it doesn't matter whether or not you have the problem. It's supposed to be a community effort - to just simply blow "us" off by saying "I've not seen that so must be your machine" is condescending.

If an adult user can't get their name into the name field because it won't take an "e" or a "d", why the devil would anyone give it or even think about purchasing it for their children. Worse, if a company issues one broken piece of software, what's to say they won't issue others (ALL?).

GAOTD & GGAOTD are great concepts when done correctly - with this software, both the website and the developer missed.

..............................Moderator Comment..............................

If I was just blowing you off you wouldn't see me replying to virtually every comment in this comment section. The majority of users did get this game to work just fine. My suggestion that it could be the users computer that is a t fault is a valid reason, and is not being condescending.

I've devoted many hours every week to helping other community members and until I was nearly killed by a motorist several years ago my previous jobs were serving the community and my country (Army, Teacher and Nurse so to be called condescending is an insult that really annoys me.

As you so rightly mention, the stated aim of the giveaway project is to help developers make their products better. This obviously doesn't happen very often, but its not the fault of the giveawayoftheday side. The giveaway side of the equation does help by allowing users to post their ideas and suggestions. It's then up to the developers to action those suggestions. I've tried my best to cajole the community into giving decent and useful feedback for years now yet we are still only getting a tiny percentage (only 0.1% of users) of community members bothering to post constructive comments.

As for repeats of previously given away games; that's still better than getting no games at all. I can only remember one game given away since December 2006 that wouldn't work on my computer and that game i already knew was a problem because i'd purchased it a few years previously while still using Win 2000 which the game worked on fine, but wouldn't work on win XP. virtually every community member had the same problem. Every other game has always had a few users that have had problems running the game and it has nearly always been either a conflict with another program (usually their AV software or firewall) or the way they have their computer set up (an outdated driver or the settings set in a way that precludes the game i.e. resolution changes)

While I love match 3 games, I HATE IT WHEN THERE IS NO UNTIMED RELAXED MODE. The purpose of playing a game is to relax and have FUN, NOT to have a timer pressure and infuriate you by making your game run out of time when you get interrupted by another person or when a cat happens to block your view of your screen or when an ominous crashing sound emanates from the next room or when something on TV catches your attention.

Game developers, PLEASE GIVE US UNTIMED RELAXED GAMEPLAY OPTION! Some of us who play games also need to be able to divide our attention between the game and real life too!!!!

..................................Moderator.....................................

Thank you for your feedback. I agree that there should at least be the option. You can always pause the game if something occurs that requires your attention. Some developers used the timed mode to calculate points, so the quicker you finish, the more points you score.

Please bear in mind that the use of capitals is considered rude. Another alternative is to include the coding for bold or italics (i.e. start a word or selection of words with [ b] then end with [ / b ] for bold or [ i ] and [ / i ] (remove the spaces though)

I'm curious as to why some people think this is better than the sequel. The sequel is longer - I thought this game was too short for a match 3 title. I also did not like having to go back to the page with the books after each level, this was an unnecessary step that was eliminated in the sequel. I did not like having to break tiles more than twice sometimes, again the sequel only had two breaks at most for tiles. The in-level puzzles in the sequel were an innovative idea, although those who can't cope with shifting block and pipe puzzles may have struggled, there is none of this in the original. There is more variety of puzzles on completion of a card i the sequel and the large hidden object scenes at the beginning of each element were bigger and better - I found some items in this first game impossible to find without a hint, I hate using hints. I also found the sequel a little more challenging - I did not have to replay any levels in this game. The graphics are lovely in this original game but they are even better in the sequel and there is less fairy irritation. I ddin't mention these points earlier as Playrix, who make truly excellent games, made the fantastic sequel even better than this original and there is nothing I would change about the sequel except for maybe more levels again, lol, I'm greedy like that. I don't think there are more levels in the sequel but they are longer, I found some levels in this first game to be way too short for my tastes ;o)

..................................Moderator.....................................

Thank you for your feedback. w.r.t. the question of which is best. I suppose it's all to do with taste. It's obvious from the responses above that the opinions as to whether the first or second is best is equally split. ;-)

I really enjoyed this game the last time it was released and played it several times through. The graphics are great. The colors are great. The challenge is fun. This game is so much more than a match 3 game. To call it that is an injustice! My only disappointment is that there aren't more levels.

Haven't got a chance to actually play the game yet. I wanted to report and perhaps get a fix on an issue first. I attempted to alt tab and work on something while the game was loading. When I alt tabbed back, it prompted for me to click to continue and then enter a name for my profile. As I was typing my name, it suddenly skipped to what seems like could be the end story about learning the 4 elements and so forth and my name going down in history. I also cannot seem to delete my name and re-create it properly.

After reading about the "GMMan FIX" posted by John Martin, I'm glad to find that there is a solution, however, I'm a bit disappointed that this game doesn't handle multiple profiles or allow you to delete and create your profile easily.

My largest pet peeve, of course, is the inability to use the letter "e" in your profile name without the game glitching. As I have mentioned in previous posts, stability is my largest judgement on a game. If there are stability issues, they effect my enjoyment of a game immensely.

Please make sure this issue is passed back to the developer so that they may perhaps fix this issue.

This is one of the best M3 games ever, and IMHO, better than the sequel. I did replay some levels to get them, but the only one I thought I'd never get through was (I think) level 63. Everyone on the game forums was talking about that one! I finally did it, and the rest of the levels were relatively easy. Definitely a good game, especially for free, LOL. I bought it when it came out.

I have grown tired of match 3 games, but 4 Elements is an exception. I love this game. Both the visual and sound effects are very enjoyable. Though, as others have said, I would like it better if there were an untimed mode. When I play games I am playing to relax and having a gamed timed goes against what I am looking for.

I think aa lot of work has gone into making the patterns for the areas where we have to clear a path, but there is not a way of seeing the whole picture - we are restricted to those bits we are working in at the time. It would be helpful (for me) to have a way of viewing the whole area so that I can appreciate it more - there is no sense of engagement when I cannot see the start and end in one view.

...........................Moderator comment..................

Thank you for your feedback. I agree with you to some extent. At least have a preview that you can look at a ny time, not just a quick flash at the beginning of a level.

Another wonderful Playrix game! :)
My wife and i love them. :D

This one is a great match 3 with unique features and great graphics, and we both enjoy playing it. :)

One bug to point out, though:
- when we started the game, we got the credits like we just finished it! (on both PCs, Vista and XP)
That was a bit confusing.

GET THIS GAME! Got this the last time it was offered. That Wrascally Wabbit is correct. One of the best match 3's. The graphics are so intense and the game play is different than your reg match 3's. Use those power ups..you can't win without them. I beat it once. The hardest level(near the end) was the one where if you didn't get past a certain part..the fairy shows up and ask if you want to start over because you won't finish the level if you don't do the first part correct. It took me 4 times to get it right. Darn if I can remember how..LOL Guess I will have to play again to figure it out.

Thanks Playrix..your games are some of the best casual games and thanks Wabbit for the review. And GGOTD, thanks and ...wish we could go back to daily games but then Wabbit would never get any sleep..so I guess it is best it is only the weekends now. :)

Really enjoying the game, except for the fact that my name ends in an "e" so I played most of the way through the fire level then had to exit, only to discover that I have to play it through again. I'm going to follow the link above to fix it. Good think it's a fun game I won't mind playing through again! :)

I got this one just before my previous computer went to the Great Recycler in the sky, and I lost it - so I'm very pleased to have another chance!

Like all Playrix games I've tried, this one has beautiful bright, clear graphics, and the music is okay, although I usually play with the sound off. The little fairy helper gives confidence to someone new to playing this type of game, and she does have the sense to disappear into her help button after giving a few hints.

The Hidden Objects in this one are more hidden than they usually are, because they're in pieces - you have to find all the pieces before the object itself becomes available to help with the next task. You'll find that each object is needed to complete one of the others, by (for example) opening a box or demolishing a rock which hides a part of something else.

I haven't got very far with this version yet, but from my previous copy I remember that the game does become more difficult as you continue through the levels. This is normal - you do learn as you go along, and the fairy is always around to ask if you need her help.

I like this kind of game, and this one is a very pleasant way of passing a tea break or two, so it's great to have it back! Thanks to the GGAOTD Team, not forgetting Whiterabbit for his always helpful and readable reviews.

:-D

I have to say that this is one of the best match-3 plus games that I have played in a long time. My 12yo daughter is very addicted to this game and the storyline is enjoyable. Graphics are nice and crisp, bright, and flawless in execution. Have loaded on Vista and 7 with no issues. Also have loaded on a laptop and desktop just fine. Would LOVE to see a Nook App for this game in the future!

Thanks to GGOTD Team & WhiteRabbit, job well done as usual.

I downloaded his game back in Sept 04, 2011 under title "4 Elements" ... so when I saw this version "4 Elements Premium", even with Stephen's input that some of the tiles and levels have a differnt and added look I still had this Question ...

Q: Is this a different game and will it be installed under a different directory?

So, the answer is, the Premium version will be installed right Over your current "4 Elements" version and Keeps all of your old info, such as Names.

Installed easily on Vista Home PRem., x64.

I did notice that this version ... for some reason Started/Loaded up Faster than the old version ... which is a plus.

Thanks again,

G! :)

Came back to add: I'm so thankful for comment no.28!
I had the same "E" problem last time already but someone said it was probably fixed by now - my daughter is called Selina and as a kid (7) eager to have her real name in it so I went ahead to type it - same problem this time! After I typed the "E" the game started and didn't let me change/add players afterwards!
I tried changing the keymap file but it wouldn't let me (yes, I was "admin", don't know why I still wasn't allowed), so I deleted it. Now everything is working fine after clicking on the error message at the beginning which I don't mind. Phew!

I have my favourite game back. If anyone misses this you can get it at myplaycity but I don't like that you have to close your browser every time you play a game from them. I understand why they do it but I would rather get this one and delete the myplaycity one. This I did and the nice thing is that all my levels I played remained. This is one the best match three games out there and to get it free. Thanks GOTD and Playrix. I now have three of Playrix's games. Can't go wrong with them.

I downloaded and played this game before todays offering and liked it alot. My only niggle (which someone else mentioned above, but I'm surprised is not mentioned more) is the fairy popping up and giving hints even when hints are shut off.

I must also admit to a bit of disappointment at the games congratulations screen. I really enjoyed the artwork on the cards and would have liked to have seen some video of the characters on the cards or even just full screen pics or different pics of the same characters. Thats prolly a tall order considering download sizes, but just thought I'd mention it.

great game, thanks Playrix and GGOTD.

It would be nice to turn off the timer in the game. I like to play these sorts of games to relax and I've found that timers only add an unnecessary pressure. So what if it takes someone longer than an arbitrarily predetermined length of time? Not everyone plays these games the same way. Some people just can't move as quickly as others, which puts them at a disadvantage.

..............................Moderator Comment................

True. It would be nice to see a un-timed mode which I think was added to the second version of this game 4 Elements II

keep the graphics card silent, please. The graphics is nice but I can’t imagine it’s so laborios (I’ve got a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti and a six-core AMD Turion CPU)

Thanks,

---

The free GPU-Z will tell you just how hard your graphics card [or on-board chip] is working. FWIW many of these casual games will gladly use up as much CPU & graphics horsepower as the more 3D intense games you might be comparing 4 Elements to. These casual games normally don't require a lot of horsepower, but if it's there they'll use it. If the fan noise bothers you maybe try the free MSI Afterburner app -- it comes with a basic fan profile you can modify, & long story short, the fan speed is set along a curve rather than a straight line ramp, often making things quieter.

Installed fine on Windows 7 HomePremium 64 bit. Playing fine, saving fine, all seems okay except every nickname or screen name that I usually use has an "e" in it. I've just seen the workaround so I may give that a go next time I play it. It's strange that they haven't fixed it since the last time this was given away - don't they bother to read the feedback?

This is better than most games in this genre. I give it two thumbs up.

J'avais acheté le jeu sur iPad, je suis allé jusqu'au bout avec bonheur, car c'est très addictif.
Maintenant je suis heureux de passer à la version PC, les quelques changements inévitables entre les deux versions suffiront à renouveler le plaisir.

Merci beaucoup

This is a fantastic and highly polished arcade-style puzzle game. Not sure it will have the lastability of the jewel quest series i am already familiar with, but it certainly has better graphics and quite compelling gameplay if you like these kind of games.

For those with the problem entering the Letter “E” in their user name… (or letter “D” in some cases)

Its a minor but and the good news is.. it doesn’t happen to everyone. In a some systems… hitting the letter “E” causes the game to jump to the “Epiloge” thus ending the game before it starts (or the Letter “D” brings up the Dialog box.) The Keyboard mapping fix from Ricethief was mentioned above... here's an alternative workaround, previously posted by GMMan.

GMMan FIX
For those who needs an “e” in the player name, type your name without the “e”, exit, and then open up “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Playrix Entertainment\4 Elements\GameInfo.xml” (under XP) or “C:\ProgramData\Playrix Entertainment\4 Elements\GameInfo.xml” (Vista and 7) and change the “name” attribute under your player profile to what it should be.
